Here is my practice of bisecting circles from today. I think I need to continue practicing this regularly to get stronger at accuracy and have better co tell.
I’m not sure if it can be seen from the drawing but I noticed that I was having the most difficulty with the lines going SW to NE (or going from NE to SW, I tried various line directions). It seemed that those line had more curvature or incorrect angles to them than the other lines.
I also tried doing some slow and faster lines. It felt easier to be more accurate when drawing slower but not always. Sometimes it the line went way off when trying to concentrate too hard on it or when I looked directly at the pencil point instead of where the line was starting and stopping.
I look forward to doing some more practice and hopefully improving my accuracy.

I’ve been having fun all week with this assignment. I started out by drawing the basic six triangles to make the cubes and followed up with some of the exercises from Marshal. I looked at some images of MC Escher piece “Ascending and Descending” and then tried to try my own version of them. I started out with a square shape but by the third time I realized I had to have two sides longer just to meet up at the end.
I also drew an impossible triangle before starting on a little isometric Where’s Waldo little scene. Need to do a little more work to finish it up but wanted to post what I have done so far this week.
I also have done to pick up some tracing paper and vellum to get more comfortable with tracing over the base images as Marshall suggested. Haven’t used the vellum yet as I wanted to try out the tracing paper first. I have really been enjoying using some T squares and 30, 60, 90 triangles to make all the lines and it’s fun to see what I can make. Looking forward to continue working on these and creating some more imaginary scenes like these.

Played around with bringing shapes forwards and pushing them back and then added some water for the final one...

Hi everyone. My name is Paul and I am a fine furniture maker. I want to learn to draw better in perspective to help me design pieces for my work but also because I enjoy drawing. I picked up a few books on drawing in the last couple of years, which I have enjoyed but feel like having some better instruction is needed.
My big picture goal for this class is to get better at drawing various shapes in perspective, such as curves in architecture and furniture and to become better at drawing things from my imagination from all angles. All of these skills will help me in becoming a better furniture designer as well as drawing urban landscapes which I enjoy as well.
As for some favorite drawings, I have included some pictures from one of my favorite artists since I was a kid, MC Escher. I have always loved Hand with Reflecting Sphere (image 1) and Relativity (image 2) and recently rediscovered the spiral staircase (image 3).
Image 4 and 5 are from Paul Heaston who does a lot urban sketching and point of view style sketches. I enjoy seeing these scenes from daily life.
Image 6 and 7 are from James Gurney. I love all of details he includes in his cities for the architecture as well as including dinosaurs into his pieces, which are from different angels and poses.
Image 8 and 9 are from Norman Rockwell which I enjoy for the snapshots of daily life. I like how he lightens his colors for depth.
The last images are from Ryan Church, who makes some amazing concept art for Star Trek, Star Wars and Avatar.
I am really looking forward to learning from Marchall and have been loving seeing all the artists people have been sharing. Thanks for all the new artists to check out.
