Practicing with photos from unsplash.com and checking my lay-ins in Photoshop. Slowly getting more accurate each time.

Spent a few minutes on each. Exaggerated the curve a bit for each and focused on building the shapes off of the gesture.

Spent about an hour and a half on this. Worked on 18 x 24 in drawing pad took up a good portion of the pad. Patience and drawing larger seems to help me. Once I got the larger shapes layed-out I could zoom in on screen and get smaller ones drawn in.

I took another try. I feel I came closer the second time around.

I tried another master study by David Malan. I am realizing the key for me to improve my lines is to improve my drawing from my elbow and shoulder. I am practicing exercises to gain control with that. :0)

This was the hardest lesson so far. Not focused on accuracy but just on creating the animal based on basic shapes.

These are really fun! I dig how you the hippo looks like a 3d box.

Trying to get more practice with lines. Tried organizing line weight based on shadow and contrast.

I chose Dave Malan to study. I love how much volume and depth he achieves with his use of lines. The nose and mouth are off. I tried to focus mostly on the lines. Going for gesture and weight over getting them in the exact, exact right place. I learned a lot and am planning on doing another study with one of his drawings. Great lesson and assignment!

Drawing from the shoulder is challenging but had fun with the exercise.

Still working on training my eyes to see all the values but slowly improving. The demo videos are very helpful. Also trying to train my overhand grip using an easel which has been very challenging. :0\

Take 2. I spent significantly more time time laying the proportions in. I followed along with the demo and my results improved dramatically. It was helpful to know that it should take roughly an hour and a half to do the lay in. It was extremely helpful to follow along and see where he was simplifying the values. I still need a lot of work training my eye but am learning a lot.
