Hi! I think the background works great - just enough there to give some context without taking away from the portrait. I think you’ve done a superb job of indicating his eyes through his shades, and this is a believable portrait full of character.

great challenge, such a good discipline to reduce detail and mass values! I really enjoyed these and have cut up more illustration board to paint more. These are townscapes more than landscapes to be fair and photos have been snapped on my phone whilst walking the dog, these are all within a stones throw from my home in Glasgow.
