I think I should have avoided darkening the back skin folds so much for the shadow and light one

The black ones are done before the tutorial, and the red are done after.
The post-tutorial ones took a lot less time. I think the hand only took 30 minutes, compared to hours the first time.
I see a few minor mistakes on each now, but over all happy with the progress.

My brain turned to mush drawing these boots. So glad to be done, but also pretty happy with how they turned out.
I see some clear mistakes, like the laces starting too low, and the heels being too small. I can't work on this any longer though.
Also the snail looks pretty messy, now that I look back
The design is really cool. You have a good innate sense of design. Some parts don't conform to face anatomy, like his right cheekbone looks broken and indented.
Look up "Asaro head", and observe faces around you more, and then if you do this again it'll certainly improve!

After a few days they are improving a lot.
I've been lifting the stylus completely for the light areas, tho I'm not sure if I should be doing this.
Going to try mixing up their shapes a little from now on
I got in way over my head with this one, but really wanted to try the level 2 simplified portrait.
Any feedback or critique would be much appreciated.

I got in way over my head here, but really wanted to try the level 2. This is my first portrait ever. I'll admit, working digitally saved me a few times. Major kudos to those working traditionally.
I just got the Drawing Basics course, and completed the first day, but I had a question about working digitally.
How concerned should I be with the shading method? I have some okay pencil and line art brushes, but they didn't really look great hatching. Long term my style probably won't involve hatching either.
Should I still try to find a better pencil brush and work on hatching, or should I just move forward, focusing on blocking out the shapes with maybe flats?
Critique on the work is also welcomed <3
Thanks for any help!

Critique is welcomed. This was done digitally so I tried two different shading methods. The first method was the traditional style, which I think I need a better pencil brush for. The second is just flats.
