A female spirit I made up as a sequence to my axolotl mermaid. The savubeh roams the scorched fields after a wildfire, leaving a trail of fireweed behind. I used Channon for the pose reference, though obviously I had to change quite a few things about her to fit the design.
Hello Marco, I wonder how do you feel on speed regarding paintings? I feel like I am getting progressively slower as I work the same hours but my paintings take longer and longer to complete. I’d like to think it is because I put more thought into my process and add necessary detail, but is it acceptable for an illustrator to work 2-3 weeks on one painting? I wonder what your experience with painting and speed has been like. I appreciate the feedback :)
Asked for help
Hi, Scott! Thank you for doing an AMA for us. Do you have any tips on starting out with character design from an illustration basis? How to combine and approach studying anatomy, shape design, value grouping etc?
Hi, Marco! Love your videos on color. I'm curious how your artistic time is allocated - commissions, freelance work, studies, courses, etc? What is it you are focusing on right now and how do you juggle multiple projects at once?
Just a dream. Just a fantazy. Just for fun. Thank you for June 2021 Proko Challenge. It's so wonderful to fulfil our dreams through the art.
P.S. please look at my artwork in the original, because there are a lot of dead pixels on preview.
This is my submission for Proko Challenge. Let's say, it seems like I've been trying to free myself from psychological bondage for my whole life...
PLOT
"Reverie" is a film about my personal experience drawing and painting fantasy creatures. Creating fantasy worlds in our heads is something that I'm sure every one of us do often. With that premise, I thought about a story where I fall sleep looking at the moon on a full moon night, when I wake up everything seems extrange to me, I am in another world.
That world is there for me, I get lost in all its majesty and greatness. Wild life in this fantasy world conforms a rich enviroment of new species and I feel the need to draw them so that I have notes of every creature, every piece of land.
On my way I meet unknown creatures such as the ones you see on the film poster, who help me find a way to return to my world at the same time we fight dangers and discover secrets well hidden.
After living an adventure with theese characters, I have to make the final decision, do I want to go back to life or do I want to stay there forever? Will I ever remember this world?
THOUGHTS
My main idea was to create an "8" composition with all the characters involved in the plot. I also wanted me to be on the bottom with the book so that creatures looked like they are coming from the book somehow. I wanted to avoid making them literally coming out of the book but rather make the book the base of the painting so that hopefully it has that feel of giving life to everything.
Hope you like it, you guys are all very skilled, can't wait to see all submissions left.
Hello fellow artists! I chose to do an animated film that is a drama based on the past year of being stuck inside and how I’m trying to make more efforts to get outside.
Hi everyone! See your amazing artworks make me feel so proud to be a part of this community. Here is my submission for this month Proko Challenge. I wanted to make an animated film in an anime style. I want it to be magical and dreamy. If I could dream to live in this world, I wouldn't want to wake up.
I imagine myself in this imaginative world where Naomi lives with the Three Mighty Giants, who represent for Hope, Imagination and Love. She has her own adventure in this magical world and her mission is to protect this world of her own. These three Giants bring Hope and Love to people, and unlock their imagination, which is the core of this land. And in order to protect the Giants, she has to make sure everyone is filled with loves and hopes and dreams, so that they cannot be consumed by the Darkness.
I feel like this is my constant battle where I have to fight myself not to be eaten by depression. I turn my family and friends in to the Three Giants because I'm lucky to surrounded by them who have always been believing in me. Thus, I did not give up on this dream and hopefully one day I will become a professional artist.
Imagination allows us to speak in our own voice and I am astonished by our community. I wish everyone the best on your journey!
Here is my entry "SEAL Team 9", an action-adventure military/spy film about mermaids who were rescued by and join a new US Navy SEAL Team where they go on top-secret classified assignments around the world.
Since 2019 I've been working on creating a story that combined two of my main interests that I've tended to draw: "tacticool" military and sensual mermaids. With this SEAL Team 9 was born, and I've been trying to come up with a story to follow up on that. I wanted to create a different kind of story involving mermaids that isn't just another "Little Mermaid". I'm drawn more to the high-stakes world of special operations and unconventional warfare, and what interesting challenges, opportunities, and threats this team will face.
My art style is more influenced by comics, and this was an interesting challenge for me to come up with something on fairly short notice. Luckily, I did have an inked line art sketch done during last month's MerMay 2021 art challenge, so I figured I'd turn that into an action movie poster. I've learned a few things in the process, and quite happy with what I was able to produce on short notice.
