Here is my homework assignment of both levels. Any feedback is welcomed, I will not lie value was a big challenge and this really tested me.
@coolartkid
These are so good! I especially love the contrast of values on the face, it looks reallly interesting. I don't really have any criticisms to give. Great job!
@flolo
This is my first pear and the start of my drawing journey, it was already quite challenging.
@coolartkid
Starting is the first step so well done for that. I think the values of your shadows and lighter areas are too similar. Maybe you could try making your shadow areas much darker to create more contrast between your tones. Also, I think it would be good to break up your pear into even smaller shapes.

The first 4 pears are from April, then I took a break, and did the final pear (and peach from life) yesterday. I had trouble with the first batch since I was using old pencils that proved to be unsharpenable, so I felt I was constantly fighting against them and everything ended up very smudgy. Then I got a new, much better quality pencil set and tried it out on the last couple of drawings and it was a way better experience. Learned a lot from doing these! I wasn't sure how much to simplify at the beginning so I added more complexity with each drawing. The values got away from me a bit at times, but I can see a lot of improvement from the first attempt to the last. I'm glad I didn't stop at just one drawing per reference. Definitely useful to keep reiterating. Moving on to the portrait exercise next.
@coolartkid
I don't know what criticism I could possibly give these, they're all so good!

definitely going to retry, having a busy schedule lately. Trying to do what I can. Open to all critique and feedback! Happy to learn how to draw!
@coolartkid
First off, I think your effort alone is commendable, making time for things that are important to us is never easy, so well done! I think you could have more variety in the number of shapes for the pears. Additionally, adding more dark values in your shadows and lighter values for the rest of the pear would be good. I also saw someone lightly shade in a background to make the pear stand out which I thought was really cool so I think it would be good to add that as well. I'll definitely be trying it myself.

Hi! Started this course just last week. Here are my drawings, one before watching the demo and the other after the demo. Still need to do a third one.
@coolartkid
I like the added detail of shading behind the shape to create a background, it really makes the shape stand out! Your values and shapes are so clean. Great job!
Rolf
Hello together, great to be here :) I started this week and am really looking forward to the course. Here are my pears. I think they are ok, but I will try some more. However, I'm struggling a bit with how smooth my sketchbook pages are. So I think I will switch to more textured sketchbooks in the future.
@coolartkid
This is literally so good. I love how defined the edges are, you really committed to the shapes, and how easily I can distinguish the light and dark tones form one another (I really struggled with this). This is is really good!
@coolartkid
So this is my first attempt and I would really love any feedback I can get to make it better :)

You captured the form really good! I also like your dark values in the cast shadow :) I my opinion you could use more bright values on the top edges because your light source is shining more or less directly from above.

The first one is before the demo and the second one is after I watched the demo. I’ve redrew this Pear like 5 times before the demo. I would appreciate feedback
@coolartkid
I think the overall shape of the pear is pretty good. I feel like all the values could be more pronounced, especially the lighter values because it's a bit hard to distinguish the highlights. I also think the two tones of darkness in the shadow casted by the shape of the pear could be darker and there could be more contrast between them. Overall, I think this is a pretty good first attempt.

Looking for some feedback on this figure drawing, thank you!
@coolartkid
I really like how the muscles and the joints overlap. I think you got the gesture pretty spot on and the proportions are really accurate as well. The detail added with the shading is pretty good as well, although it would be easier to appreciate the work done with the shading if the background wasn't so dark. It kinda overpowers the detail you've added, but this is really good in my opinion and as far as I can tell, the background is the only thing I'd change about this.
