Dear Dorian , As I am not familiar with Photoshop or working digital ( procreate etc.) I wonder if you have a suggestion on how to learn these methods as it seems very important these days. I enjoyed the start of your shading course only to feel a bit discouraged when it became more digital. I really appreciate your methodical, calm teaching style and hope to become more updated. Yours Peter Lennig

Hello Peter. I'm currently working through Dorian's shading course and using graphite. I know the last module seemed like it would be helpful to know digital, but I did it in graphite too. I personally want to improve my pencil drawing skills, so that's why I'm going that route. Ultimately, I want to oil paint, and I feel like digital is a step in the wrong direction for that goal. Just my 2 cents. Of course it depends what your goals are. That said, I think Proko has some digital lessons. Also, Dorian has invited Proko students (who have purchased the shading course) to his private discord server and a free weekly feedback session. You should have received an email. The discord server is the quickest way to contact him.

Hi All - seeing amazing examples in the posts. Viewed Stan's demo of pear and practised pears 1 and 2. One question I had while drawing this was: It is difficult to see the shape of the darker halftone at some parts of the pear - so does drawing this depend on balancing what you see vs designing the darker halftone shapes (which I guess needs more skill/experience)? Did you guys also face this issue/ambiguity?

I have the same issue....

I find that I really have problems with seeing the planes on round objects. I realize this when drawing faces as well. I first watched the 6 minutes project video and then tried on my own from the photograph. After this drawing I did several value studies with different grade pencils to find the combination which best gives me two light and two dark values.

Stan posted this comment on another persons post. Thought I'd share in case others missed it. "Another lesson this week, deep dive into sketchbooks and paper. Next week Another deep dive into pencils, erasers, and a demo on various ways to sharper pencils. Then the following week we start on the pear and portrait Simplification Project."
