Ah! This study was very difficult and I didn't realize until I watched the video that the side profile of the skull would not be covered in the video. I also tried to attempt this with my sketchbook paper and a 2b pencil.
It didn't hit me until halfway that I should have switched to charcoal and a different paper.
I still learned a lot from studying Jeff's drawing and line work.

For my master study , I ended up studying an ink drawing from Peter Han and a drawing from Alvaro Tapia Lagunas.
For the study from Peter Han, I sketched the image first and then added my lines with a fountain pen and an ink called Twilight.
For the study with Alvaro Talia Lagunas, I just used a 2b pencil and focused only on one area of the skirt. This one ended up being a quick study because I was too tired to complete it.

It is hard to see my lines in the pictures but I tried my best. I printed out the pictures and traced it with a 2b pencil. I might switch over to digital if we do another one.

I practiced sketching a few times and my robot girl ended up being the best out of the three. Hands are hard to draw and I struggled with the penguin. I watched the advanced lesson and ended up drawing a mantis. I have to keep telling myself that I am just starting out and it's okay that my drawings are not good yet. Also, if anyone is reading this, Stan has a podcast called Draftsmen and a video at the end of this course from his podcast that really helped me. I wish I would have watched the video first before starting the course because he touches on all the feelings/issues you go through when starting out. Great content!

1st attempt at drawing the pear (reference photo 2) & 2nd attempt after watching the demo (reference photo 1).
After watching the demo video, I can understand where I messed up.
Super fun learning about different values!

I knew simplification of shape and form was difficult for me before doing this but MAN I struggled. I could stop seeing and responding to all of the other shadows and highlights beyond the 5 values. And then I tried to back up, erase and simplify before seeing and responding to values again. Crazy.
Critique is always welcome!

Hi everyone! I am excited to start this course. Attached is my course assignment. I tried to quickly sketch a crochet strawberry I had hanging from my desk lamp.
First time actually testing out all of my pencils. Usually I just stick to a 2B when sketching. It is really cool to feel the difference between the pencils and to see the shades. I like the dark/softer pencils the best.
