Michael Hampton
Gesture drawing is a fundamental skill and one that many artists find difficult to approach, but in this course, I'll be showing you how I tackle this subject and give you everything you need to draw gestures with ease.

I love your book, and I'm excited for this course! Hope to take your anatomy course later in the year.
Michael Hampton
Thank you! Looking forward to it as well.

Heck yea I'm excited about this one! I've got your book Michael and I think it's great, but I'm dumb and well... dumb brain not read good 😂 This course will help to visualize the process as it happens. Can't wait to get started!
Michael Hampton
Hahaha. It's tough to learn just from books. I also always needed to see something done.
@thirdkoopa
Which would you recommend to start with? Your Gesture course or Intro to Figure Construction course?
Michael Hampton
Probably the Gesture course.
Carlye Luft
Will this course get me started on drawing figures in various gestures and perspectives from what I imagine in my head or will we be extrapolating gestures from given photos only?
Michael Hampton
A little of both. I focus on describing gesture from reference but with the intention of being able to invent later on.

I don't usually participate in such events. This is my first time, and I just opened an account. Michael seems to be a very humble person. I liked his demo, and I might give it a try. Maybe this will finally help me get started somewhere. Will it start officially on Feb. 3rd or are there also pre-recorded videos? I'm completely new here.

Hey Ari! Welcome to the platform. I'm kinda new myself but I've enrolled/purchased a few classes on here. I've been working through Michael's book, and I'm happy he decided to make a course for the gesture part of it here. In my experience, all the instructiors on Proko.com are humble and "down to earth". My experience from the other courses is there will be a video released every 5-7 days or so, give or take a day. So on Feb 3rd there should be at least one video up to start the course with. Some will be pre-recorded and some will be live demos/critiques that will be posted as videos for reference later. We'll have projects to complete, etc. Someone else with more experience may be able to chime in with more info. But this is a great place to start and I think Michael's Gesture course is going to be excellent.

Michael does this course coincide with your book on Gestures or is the book stand alone reading?
Michael Hampton
Yes, it does. I designed them at the same time. They're complimentary. That isn't to say you need them both though.
@zetaboffin
Michael Hampton is this your final course for Proko?
Michael Hampton
There might be something planned for the future ...
maximilian benjamin
Will free sessions be inkluded in this course.
Michael Hampton
Not sure I understand the question

If I have the Figure Drawing Fundamentals course...do I need this?
Michael Hampton
Not if you don't want a course that focused on gesture alone.
Jose Antonio Albero
Please someone help me, I have just bought this course but some reason I do not have access to it what can be the case? i have the proof of the receipt if that helps
Guille Ibanez
its a pre-sale. I think it's released Feb 3rd 2025
Guille Ibanez
I recently purchased the 'Introduction to Figure Construction' course but haven't started it yet. Looking at this gesture course, it seems logical to complete this course first as there seems to be some overlap with the other one. Is that correct? Thank you!

Building your draftsmanship skills as well as understanding and demonstrating form are very slow skills to accumulate. You might as well start now. The time will be passing regardless. It doesn't need to be in the context of constructing figures if you don't want to.
Sean Ramsey
I spoke with Hampton! They are two separate skills that you could train in either order and you could start with either if you have a preference to learn one over the other first. From his words though: "There's no right or wrong way to begin, however, I agree that starting with the Gesture course is the most logical approach." I hope that helps!
Sean Ramsey
I've asked him and will let you know his response when he gets back to me!

About how many assignments will there be? And will the critiques be in video form?
Sean Ramsey
There will be 5 assignments and 5 Critique videos! Assignments will be on Proportions, The 16 Line approach to gesture, Master studies, Difficult Poses, and The Shape Method. Hope that helps!
