I am an Intermediate art learner and just watched few of ur videos on measuring and ideas on portrait drawing, I am willing to practice but at same time really curious, like for how much time , days or months perhaps I should practice before trying to chip in the details , like I am practising to draw the structures and getting the proportions right, or should I just chip in some minor details in the structures that I draw and then skip to the next pose ?
So basically I want to know the approach, I know there is no pre determined path to be good at this, but at least some advices before I find my flow
Portrait in procreate. Must say charcoal pack from lane is fantastic.
@Lane Brown @Proko @Stan Prokopenko
Hello! Would it be possible to include a button were we could download the whole course in one click ? That'd be great :)
do we assignments or any tasks ? or how do we practices daily for each section of this course ? and how do we measuring the proportions like in figure drawing course ?
Hey guys! Altough this is not your typical portrait and I do not usually draw in pencil/charcoal etc., this course has helped me immensely and made portrait painting/drawing so much easier for me. I come back to this course over and over again and it has been the best one I ever took. Thank you @Stan Prokopenko for putting in the hard work and giving this course to striving artists.
@Stan Prokopenko Took this course a year back and I have been practising since. This is my latest drawing, Charcoal on Bristol paper. Let me know what you think and what the areas for improvement are.
I'm gonna be real, if I can get this good, I would be ecstatic, congratulations.
Hey guys! I bought today premium version of drawing a portrait! Haven't started watching yet but I draw a portrait before. I didn't try to copy exactly like it's on referance but I would like to know if there is something wrong? (I'm sure it is). I am very excited that this course include hair drawing because I don't really like the way I did it. I am trying to draw at least one portrait and I will post one after finishing this entire course. Please leave some feedback, I will appreciate it a lot :)
You got rid of some of the back of her skull. The bangs should go up higher into her hairline. Also the left eye is wrong, you don't actually see the outer edge of it it falls off of the side of her face. The lips are also just a little bit too short on the left there. Her ear is too small. Think the bottom of the Year might be in the right spot, but it definitely needs to be larger and come up higher. Overall it's really good, you just need to fix those areas.
HI I just started this course and really like it. I have never post any of my things but thought i would try it i hope i can get some CC thanks before hand :)
Just a quick recommendation: Try to apply more perspective to the loomis head. Because iˋve noticed, that some of your construction lines arenˋt actually converging to a vanishing point on the horizon.
Hi, here are my latest portraits. Except for the last, all done on a small A5 sketchbook. What do you think ?
These are awesome, I feel the women without the glasses could use more time in the shadowed area, unless you are going for a more 3 tone look, they are really good!
These are very good. Little room for improvement here and there, but there always is. Did you take Proko portrait class? Do you like it?
Proportions are off on the second portrait. The first one is better, but still, I'm making the head too tall each time.
It might be caused by the fact that I'm not looking at my drawing exactly from the top. I'll try again later while being more careful about that.
Not much better. I guess I just need to fight this tendency to increase the height of the head by making it larger than I think it should be.
Hi, here is a portrait I did on watercolor paper (had fun with the pencil so did not paint it). Any critique ?
The portrait looks great, and is far beyond my skill level, something I notice just looking at is is that the ears appear to be different sizes and both look too small for the head.
Here's a study I drew; the focus is on proportions and volumes. If any of you have some critique or some advice on what I should focus on next, I'd appreciate it!
Pretty good,You definetly nailed the proportion and volume.I suggest now trying to shade the face and understanding the strcuture of the feature so you can describe the form correctly.
(These two series are really good for that

Hello. I'm new here. Trying to navigate the 3D head. It only shows the side profile with the corresponding names, numbers. Or the numbers are hidden if I rotate the head. Any suggestions please?
Hello. Is Stan active with his students providing feedback and critiques? Or does he have any teacher's assistants that do so? Or are we on our own when it comes to judging our own progress, and catching our own mistakes as we progress through the course?
you are pretty much on your own, I bought his lessons 5 years ago, no one is grading our homework or give us professional feedback
Hi! In your lessons do you provide types of tools that we will need before starting?
Portrait Drawing Fundamentals
