I'm using corel painter and I'm having trouble importing the essentials brush pack. The digital oils imported perfectly. Is there anything I can do to fix this.

I have purchased the course, and cannot log to watch my lessons. all of them are locked. I have wrote to Katey Jensma and got the answer with the link which did not work. I already read some posts in this column how bad paid service Jon Neimeister and his sponsor Wacom delivered. If I read them before making decision t buy this course, I would never do it. Now I have a problem. I have seen that some people wanted to get their money back. can somebody help me, please.

This was the best description of Photoshop, and brush engines in general, that I've seen. It's really helped me understand the more subtle choices/setting with much better control than I had before.

Thanks for breaking down the brush engine a bit. I’ll be sure to play around w/ these features before moving forward, you’re super smart when it comes to the specifics of these features. I’m sure you won’t expect us to know everything, but you encourage creativity too. So I guess my question here, is it useful to stick w/ the methods you’ll be presenting than experimenting w/ these features during the assignments?

@Jon Neimeister I have a question, for future assignmenst do we have to use your brush pack? I'm currently using Krita and I can't seem to import photoshop brushes, it would just let me have the same brush tip shape but that's it, the other settings would not be the same as the original. I'm a beginner at digital painting and painting in general, should I be worried about this or should I buy a more premium software like Clip Studio Paint? Or maybe I shouldn't be worry about this for now and just focus on the fundamental painting skills and do future assignments with just the standard brush that's available on Krita?
Jon Neimeister
You don't have to use any particular brushes to get value from the course! I haven't used Krita myself but I've heard good things from other artists; as long as you can control opacity by pen pressure and get a nice variety of textures you'll have more than enough to follow along with the lessons of the course and learn the theories it teaches. If you're comfortable with Krita, I'd recommend using it until you feel it starts hindering you (which may never happen!). If you do find that Krita isn't enough, CSP is very affordable and regularly goes on sale. Either way, you don't need the fanciest software to make great digital art: creativity and solid fundamentals are all that matters.

for any clip studio paint users out here, brush settings aren't on screen all the time like I assume in PS based on the lesson. they are in the bottom left wrench Icon( take a look at the photo). This well bring up a pop up pallet menu with almost everything discussed here. You can create the F5 shortcut that PS has by going into file- preferences and set F5 to Sub tool details. the shortcut will bring up a mini version of it that you can navigate Via the drop down menu it provides.

amazing lesson!
@appleboy29
hey, thank you for such an amazing lesson! By any chance could you include information for similar tools you use but in other programs? It takes a while trying to match some of the things you are using with the ones in procreate.
Jon Neimeister
Unfortunately I'm not as experienced with other software so I wouldn't be the best person to teach that. Most of the parameters here are mirrored in Procreate, but may be named differently. The big exception being that Procreate has a lot of "mixing" parameters that make your brushes act more like wet paint. You can find some great explanations of Procreate's brush engine on youtube, or by reading through the official software manual!

That was great! Packed full of info! Definitely worth at least a few re-watches!! Man, I Definitely have waaaay to many brushes and no idea how to properly use them! Lol... Looking forward to more great lessons! 🙏 Thank you!
Holly Laing
Thank you for another great lesson! I admit that I tend to gravitate to the same few brushes most times, but learning all these different settings should really help mix things up. I also realized I have way too many brushes I never use cluttering up photoshop, time for some spring cleaning. :)
Dan Casagrande
Awesome lesson. And amazing brush pack. Really looking forward to the next lesson. ps.: I laughed HARD with the "tune it up" part 🎉🎉🎉
Oleksandr Klakov
Great, concise description of the brush engine and how to take most out of it in just 20 ish minutes, amazing.
Laura Avino
Yeah! Thank you got the lesson!
Philip Samerjan
Another great lesson! Really good tips on how to make brushes more organic, and great having access to your oil brush tips. Can't wait as we get more into digital brushwork in particular!
Jon Neimeister
Thank you! Glad you found it helpful, and we'll definitely discuss specific use cases for different kinds of brushes to get great brushwork when we get further into the painting lessons.
Jacob Morgan
Great Lesson! I have been making and downloading my own brushes for years, but I only used some of the features as I couldn't handle the more advanced options. As a result, I have far too many brushes in my page. I'll definitely start cleaning them out this week. Looking forward to the next lesson.
Jon Neimeister
Glad you enjoyed it, and I fully support your decision! One of the best things you can do for your wellbeing as a digital artist is a hardcore spring cleaning of your brushes menu to delete everything you don't regularly use. :D
