I Know the assignment was to show the simplified structure, but i really needed to get familiar with the anatomy of the neck. Plus, locating the active muscles isn't that hard.

Trying to remember the neck muscles, they are the Semispinalis capitis, splenius capitis, levator scapulae, scalenus medius, sternocleidomastoideus, omohyoideus, sternohyoideus, mylohyoideus, diagastric and platysma muscles. Knowing these muscles helps me with animal neck anatomy, since quadrupeds have broader necks than we do.
Margaret Langston
Well...I did this assignment on my own and showed very little. I don't think I did the exercise as prescribed. I'm just trying to locate the simple forms and know what I'm looking at. The demos show drawings that are informed by someone who actually knows the anatomy.

Here is my best go at the assignment. Neck muscles definitely felt overwhelming but I think by the end I was getting a grasp of them overall. I'd love any critique people would be willing to offer!

Here's my neck assignment. I drew the neck too wide in some of these drawings.

your representations of heads are lacking fundementals. Stan Prokopenko also made a course about portraits, there you can learn the loomis head method (wich is easy and accurate, almost everyone uses it)

The neck is harder than I thought. I often find myself enlargening the muscles because there is a lot of unnatural empty space. If anyone has a critique, I'd be happy to hear it.

Those are some pretty good drawings, you generally match the energy/flow. But there are some things which aren't correct. (at least I think). In some poses the sterno will be stretched. For example, in the last picture, you drew the sterno in a smooth flow, but it will actually be stretched. Also, in general, you can draw the levator a lot bigger at the clavicle. It will usually take up half the space. Lastly, your trapizius can go bit futher on the head, and remember that that part will follow the flow of the spine.

oops, I messed up the origin point of the sternocleidomastoideus >.<

please ignore this bad assignment which is drawn too much from obersation and not really a study but rather a really simple and sketchy sketch, but the confusion was too big than to do anything else, I still only feel and see the sternocleidomasteriod... I'll learn more by following the examples and watching the critqiue

Assignment 01 - Neck Muscles Not 100% sure of these placements but they feel pretty close. Feedback and critiques welcome and appreciated!

Here are some of my assignment Images. I struggled a bit with the placement of the hyoid bone and the muscles that attach to it. Also, In other text, I see that the muscles attached to the hyoid appear thinner than those shown in Stan's demos Feedback is greatly appreciated!
