The Art & Science of Figure Drawing

Shading

Highlights and Refinements

20

For this assignment, follow these steps to add highlights and refine your figure drawing:

  1. Clean the areas of your drawing where highlights will be applied.
  2. Use a white pencil on colored paper or leave areas white on white paper to create highlights.
  3. Focus on refining contours and adding details to emphasize three-dimensionality.
  4. Add dynamic finishing touches to enhance the visual excitement of your drawing.
  5. Restate the highlights as the final step to ensure they remain bright and clear.
  6. Let the drawing rest for a day or two before revisiting with fresh eyes.

I've added the highlights and cleaned up things a bit, but erred on the side of caution and didn't go for anything atmospheric in the background, part due to not being sure if I want it for a pose I chose here and part because I didn't want to mess it up. :)

Hello. This is my piece after going through the shading course. Prior to this, I did also go through the gesture lessons. I'm keen to hear feedback on this, if possible. Thanks.
