Now that you’ve all had some time to try the first project on your own, you can watch how I do it and figure out what areas you are exceeding and struggling with.
Here is my step-by-step demo on how to properly execute the first project for level 1 students.

Hello
Stan explains the approach in the demo video very clearly and logically. It helped me immensely to follow a red guideline when painting. In any case, I have the feeling that the paintings have become much better after the demo film. Feedback is always welcome...
Next time I definitely want to paint the reference picture when it's upside down - I'm already curious to see what the result will look like.
I wish you all lots of fun being creative:-)

In my first try(the one I wrote comments next to, after watching the demo) I had trouble with proportions and I was trying to finish it to fast and didn't observe the shapes carefully. I think in my second try I improved a bit, just by going more slowly and trying to enjoy the process. Please give me any helpful feedback you can find !

I watched the video several times. And here is my result. There are several points that I do not understand. First. As an engineer, I do not understand how to correctly take measurements from an object, it seems to me that the width of the pear does not match very much. The second point, I do not quite correctly how to shade the pear, but we will go through this at the end of the course and the third point. My big minus is that I cannot draw a normal difference between shadows. they do not correspond to the previously drawn values, which are at the top of the drawing

the more rounded one is before the demo, the blockier one is after. I’m using a n2 pencil and having trouble with the values, didn’t turn out well but I understand the exercise and the process.
I been meaning to learn for a while now, I’m really exited and looking forward to where this is going to take me!!

This is an excellent pear. The darker midtone is perhaps a hair too dark. But that is only minor.
great stuff 👍

Pear 1: I think Im having problems with my values. I'd like to have some feedback with the values, also I'm using 2H, HB and 2B pencils

values look great i feel like the lines could've been more straight/simple though

These are my second and third drawings after the demo. It took a long time to adjust the proportions, but it was definitely worth it for the result. What a great way to practice patience!

Really struggled with overall using traditional materials, and being able to see 5 values was very difficult, at most i saw 4 and made up where i thought 5 (darkest) would be based on the light source.
this exercise did help a lot to be able to understand where contour lines should be placed on a 3D form, which is something i was struggling with for awhile
if i were to retry this, I'd squint or blur my eyes at the reference to simplify the shadows more easily

Okay after watching the demo, I redid my pear #2.... I do think it's improved. And it gave me the opportunity to correct where my previous lines were going every which-way.
