Now that you’ve all had some time to try the first project on your own, you can watch how I do it and figure out what areas you are exceeding and struggling with. Here is my step-by-step demo on how to properly execute the first project for level 1 students.

Result after following along with Stan. Looks much better than the original one that I drew. The approach to the tones made a big difference.

This is not a pear :-)

Here is my pear attempt. Cool exercice, took me about 15-20 min, i'm happy with the results even tho it surely can be improved
@starlitter
So, do you have suggestions on how to do things like shading if you have a tremor? While your hand moves back and forth very smoothly in tight areas, mine does not. I was very impressed with the earlier video of the terrific work done by the person drawing with his mouth. Honestly, I think he would get quite dizzy doing the mushrooms that are coming up. I am very lucky to have just a tremor. Thanks!

Hi, I'm a 3D animator but I'm going back to work on my illustration skills from the beginning since I haven't seriously draw in close to a decade. I also have felt that I missed something when I was first learning the fundamentals that has held me back for years. Left first attempt, right is the attempt after watching the demo

I'd spent a while watching the free content on YouTube so was in a hurry to get to the Premium content on this course. My first attempt at the pear was a real rush - 10 mins max, no halftones, only 3 values, but I wanted to get to the first "real" video as quickly as possible. Second attempt was after watching Stan's demo - learned lots of stuff and was more patient about this one

This is a great place to start! You did a nice job separating the values into shapes and I really appreciate the way you drew out your values on the side of the page. The biggest issue I have here is the reference. This is a lovely photo of a lemon, but the light sources are confusing for this assignment. Lighting the lemon with a single strong light source (like a desk lamp) would be the best way to photograph this. It will help your study and you will get more out of this assignment. Hope this helps. Keep it up 👍

Tried to do the exercise with a tablet. Think I've started to get comfortable with the techniques discussed, even in a different format. Looking at it, I should have lightened the light values more but it's something to remember and implement going forward.

My biggest takeaways were to start off lightly shading and then adding extra layers to make areas darker. I also started to see the different values in the picture more clearly the second time around. I also really liked adding the background, it really makes the edges pop. Any critiques are welcomed :)

Nice! Your shapes follow the form better in your second drawing. Good improvement 👍
