Portrait attempt

@silentmoonss
So I’ve been practicing heads a lot and yesterday I posted a more stylized version and realized I may need some more practice with placement or features and proportions so I’m back to realism. I noticed that I may have some trouble with my centerline and how it moves in perspective so if anyone can please provide tips on what it is I’m doing wrong. Other than that here’s my attempt and hope for some overall critiques from this
The structure of the features are pretty nice, very 3D. The issue is that some of the shapes are wrong causing the portrait to look wrong.
If you flick your eyes between the reference and your drawing you can see what is different.
The jaw is too far forward
The forehead is too far back
Back of the head should be flatter
Eyes are too far apart
Neck is too long
Lips are facing the wrong way
When building the structure of the head, pay close attention to the shapes and the angles.
To help make the portrait more believable you can check the directions of the larger mases. Also campare negative shapes.
Good effort, I think what might help is remember to keep track of the larger shapes as you start defining the smaller, individual planes. The body is built to flow from piece to piece with a natural rhythm. An example of this is the back of the head/neck. In your reference, these align into almost one straight with a few subtle curves to show volume of the traps/back of the skull. In your drawing, each plane is well defined but disconnected from one another and creates a line with many juts and angles. The same thing happens with the mouth. Each plane is defined well, but the overall shape is somewhat off the mark and doesnt protrude in the same way your reference does. Youll also see on the right side corner of the lips, it begins to look flat as youve lost the planes defining the curvature of the shapes. Think larger to smaller shapes and it may help.
