Hi all, leaving a trace in this newborn platform.. Here are a bunch of figure drawing practice and study of @Lane Brown 's style and approach which i really adore ;) I did them a year ago during the challenge event of "Figuary" (held annually in February, hosted by lovelifedrawing.com and models provided by CroquisCafe) Comments & Constructive critiques are always appreciated! Thanks. also, lets connect in this new platform

Hey andreas, your figures look good. I can tell you have practice a lot. In terms of criticisms there are a few areas I think you can improve upon to take these quicksketches to the next level. First off, is the shadow mapping and rendering. Be clean concise with the edges of your shadows. Understand the form, apply the terminator line then shade in the shadow. Use a variety of softness(lost, soft, hard, sharp) for the edges. There's a practice called vacant shadows which challenges you to use 1 colour for the shadow area of the whole image. Secondly, I find it hard to understand some of the forms in your image. Point 1 will help but sometimes we can also bend reality to communicate better. For example I like warp the cast shadow dependent on what form its falling upon. This communicates the form below. I also like to sharpen the bottom edge of most shadows to communicate that its a cast shadow. Hope all goes well. Look forward to seeing your improvement

these are too good!!…for quick sketches it look great, how quick were these sketches?

thanks. all were fast-paced exercises, 30s - 1 min for laying down the rough overall gesture, then max 5 mins to refine and shade on each pose

Here are a few thing where you can go and what to improve things what you can practice more: -Counterbalance -Weight of the figures and shadows -ankerpoints of the figures -you can also work on the rythm part more so like 30 sek gestures can help you out. but keep in mind. -work on your flow more some of the figures look sometimes stiff , for example: the males what kicks ball i would never put both hands in front so i would make a sharp c curve on both hands but one leads much more the the gesture line where his arm is slightly visible from the his right. another thing to keep in mind try to be much more relaxed and take a break: in the break look at your measurements or stuff or flip the canvas i saw for example a female havin a longer arm than the other.. ( on the first picture ) anyway i hope this is helping you out.

Thanks so much for your insightful feedback! Yeah, the practice that i did is indeed all fast-paced one... having short time constrain, maintaining gesture, flow, dynamism while keeping the structure, perspective, and proportion right is hard indeed.. still working on those to get the intuition, hey, maybe that's a lifelong study? lastly @Nanokan , could you explain more what "ankerpoints" in? is that similar to body landmarks concept? Thanks.

These are fantastic. I'm, sorry not to be able to say anything more constructive but you are definitely better at this than I currently am. It's inspired me to do some more gesture drawing though so thank you 😊 🙏 There is real life and weight in all of them. Thanks for sharing

Wonderful job! Ah, I'm really fond of croquis and gesture studies. You really nailed them. With these really simple drawings, you should find where the "action happens" and focus on that, make it more detailed, or separate it from other places. I think your best is the 'Week 2,4' you got the action pretty well. I hope I could help! Keep up the good work! :)

Very beautiful images - love the shade and your gestures look really interesting. I can definitely recognise these models, but in some drawings the face is a bit distracting (week 3,5 for example) so perhaps you could work on that.
