Your style is pretty close, but your lighting direction can be more consistent. Like the bird on the right has no shadow at the bottom. And their shadows can be warmer, as in your example. You can make the lit areas a little lighter and yellower, and have a warmer, darker and more saturated shadow. The lighting on the brick wall is odd. if the light comes from the top, you should make the top lighter. And the brick wall is much more saturated than the animals. I don't know if that's intentional because the brick wall is the focal point? If not you should consider change the color/saturation of the wall.

I think you already put great care into analysing the style and it shows in your work. Your image shows the same consistent use and style of textures and the limited split-complementary palette choice, which is very appealing. I would recommend looking next at the use of saturation and value in the reference image, as it's used to guide the viewer throughout the page (which is especially useful in the picture book context). The shift towards a higher saturation in color and the higher contrast in value leads the viewer's eye towards the bottom right with the cat and the caterpillar, making them the center of focus. I think practicing this would make a very useful technique to keep in your toolbox.
