You can either use a heavier gauge wire, or reinforce the armature by doubling up on the wire by twisting. You can also try filling in cavities like the chest, legs, etc with aluminum foil then build up your clay volumes on top of that (this works best for large sculpts) You can also consider adding a supporting mount to hold your figure upright. I have attached examples of the three suggestions.

Thank you very much it is really helpful

If we have other references that we would like to use, would that be allowed or do we have to work from the provided references?

If you want it to be entered for a chance to win the prizes it hast to use these references. If you’re just doing it for fun you’re welcome to use other references and post it in the “sculpture 3D” section under a new topic!

I only saw the sample chapter that was released to announce this lesson, but it totally inspired me to try the color picker wiggle trick on this portrait study I just happened to be working on at the time. I really like the results I got.

One can tell that you have a background in oil painting, especially in the second image. (King Richard!!! 😍😍😍 I miss that show!)

I miss Galavant as well. I usually turn my nose up to musicals, but the songs were so funny that I gave the show a once in a lifetime pass on my strict "no-musicals for entertainment" policy. :)

For being sort of new to digital painting, these look very promising, Christopher! I think you are already advanced in rendering the human form as well as establishing a harmonious color scheme. The area you could still work on a bit is your brush work, or the consistency of your brush work within one piece. You are using different brushes with vastly different texture and softness to them (clothes vs. skin vs. hair/beard). To avoid this disconnect between different materials within a painting, I would suggest you only use one, simple brush within one painting and only vary the flow/hardness/opacity/pressure sensitivity of this one brush to render different materials. Good luck and cheers! :)

I agree 100% with your observations regarding my brush strokes. Truth of the matter is, I never finished either of the above paintings. I went as far as to render the facial details and a few minor areas of focus, but completely left things like clothing or background environments implied, but untouched. Both paintings I only used 1 or 2 layers. While there is nothing wrong with that, I had already spent more hours than I care to imagine learning how to properly mix and blend my colors in a digital format. Once I had something figured out, the rest was fairly easy, but still time consuming. So once I got to the clothing, I was pretty burnt out. So what I am presenting is not a finished product, just sort of a peek at the roadmaps I tend to follow when working a piece out. Since then I have gotten better about things like flow hardness/ opacity/ and pressure sensitivity, and I generally try to keep my brush selections down to a soft round, a hard round, a textured brush (varies), and a hair brush cause I am lazy and hair is hard. Thanks for taking the time to give me your input. Cheers.

So all my previous experience with painting has been with oils. While I enjoy working in the medium, I find that I do not enjoy the cleanup, at all. Digital has been a surprising delight to work in, especially with my ipad. I feel like I have my whole art studio in my hands when I sit down to work. Anyways, here are some examples of some of the digital drawings and paintings that I have done while I have been working things out. Please let me know what you guys think.
