I had another attempt of a different pear after watching the demo and the critique. Even though I did a better job I liked this picture less when I finished as now I can see all the problems with it! I made some errors with the initial outline and the angels of some of my shaded shapes are off. I really learnt the benefit of walking away and taking a second look at your work. After I thought I was finished I went back and filled in some more shading simplifying my pear further. I wish I had taken a break and waited for fresh eyes before moving on from my initial outlining.

I’m pleased with my first attempt as a complete beginner. There are plenty of mistakes with the shading and values, and areas I’d like to improve but I’m trying to be kind to myself too. Proud that I did this without jumping ahead and watching the demo first. I’m sure we will all look back on our pears in few months time and be able to see some great progress.
