My biggest struggle with the pear was getting consistent shading both in terms of texture and value, especially such that the distinction between the 5 tones was obvious while still feeling integrated and 3-dimensional. When working on the portrait, I allowed myself to design slightly more complex shapes, but focused much more on getting consistent and distinct tones. I think it helped that I used consistent tools (all the same brand of woodless graphite.) I kinda phoned it in with the shirt, but overall I think the portrait turned out better -- at least according to the criteria of the project -- and was actually easier. Curious what others think. Would love some feedback! (I’m not sure where my original post went, so here it is again.)

Here is my humble submission. Hoping to do both levels throughout the course, if time allows.

Nice, even shading with clearly distinct values. Well done!

Awesome job -- you got a nice pose there, with clean interesting shapes, and it looks like you made some really good creative choices around where to present the shadows. You captured the essence of the portrait while sticking to the assignment. Even, distinct (and only 5!) tones. Good stuff!

This looks great, you really nailed the proportions and perspective. Very 3-dimensional. My one critique would be that I see significantly more than 5 values here, particularly in the darker half-tones, and there isn't very clear separation there. So it feels like it's bordering on a rendering rather than deliberate simplification. Looks phenomenal though.

Didn’t have more time before the deadline for the correction but I at least have the time to try one. The first picture is just a practice after the pencil video. Made it without smudging tools so it took times

Nice even tones with clean separation. Really like it, well done.

Really interesting shapes and you definitely captured the dimensionality of it, especially around the top. Great job.
