Asked for help
Hello everyone! I'm continuing to work on my gesture drawing and feel like they are slowly getting better. Most of these are 2 minutes, but some are untimed. Someone in the community gave me the tip to focus on longer more flowing lines. I have a terrible habit of using very sketchy lines and constantly restating the same line to find one that I like with the end result coming out quite hairy or sketchy. I tried to focus on much longer lines, but continue to fall into the sketchiness habit. Any constructive feedback is very much welcomed!

Hi Dan, It would be nice to present your work in a better way. Take a clear picture with a nice light and rotate it in a way we don't have to tilt our heard. I took a look at your previous drawings and there's clearly an improvement in your line quality. You still have room to make them better but you are on the good track ! Try to draw bigger and focuse on using your arm, not your wrist. You can start by a quick warm-up where you will only draw straight and curvy lines. It might seem boring but it's really helpful. Take a look at the Proko's video "How to hold and control your pencil". Also, I feel your are focusing more on the contours than the gesture. Try to exagerate the poses will give then more srengths. Watch again the gesture videos and draw along with Stan. Keep going

Hi! I did 12 drawings using the landmarks total. The landmarks I saw are usually marked by a dot or ellipse/circle. It didn't seem too hard during it. Tbh I'm kind of proud of how it came it out although it definitely has proportional errors. I was mainly focusing on trying to put the landmarks in. All other lines were just to draw the rest of the body. I appreciate ANY and ALL feedback. Should I move on? Thanks!

Hi Becky, Could you please post the photo references you used ? It would be easier to compare them to your drawings and then make a proper critic. For what I see now, I think you could highlight the landmarks a bit more on some poses as it is the point of the exercise.

Here’s my attempt at the landmarks assignment. I was unsure what to include in the sketches, as I don’t know anatomy yet so I couldn’t add in any muscles. I would appreciate any critiques as this was a pretty confusing lesson for me to wrap my head around and I don’t know that I did the assignment right.

Hello Grace, Your lines are great ! They make your drawings really pleasant to look at. The proportions and gesture are good too but some of the landmarks are off. Which is weird because they are used to measure the proportions and to find the gesture ! They will be also very important later for the anatomy. So it is important to look for them while drawing. I allowed myself to point some of your mistakes and compare them to Stan's drawings. As you drew from the same poses as Stan, I think it will be better for you to watch the videos again and then compare your drawings to them. Then, move on to different poses. It's a difficult exercise as it is no always easy to find the landmarks on some poses. I suggest you to keep an eye on the picture with all the landmarks while drawing. Take a look at the pose then at the picture, then look for the landmarks and point them out. Keep going !

Hello! I drew 10 figures and... well. Time was really a problem, I guess I was still too focused on contour and proportions. I’ll try to do better tomorrow (when I practice again). All of them were 2min drawings, and I couldn’t complete one because I lacked enough space for it (dumb me, I should’ve drawn that on another page). Comparing the 1st to the last, I think I’ve gotten better :). I also attached some references here (sorry I couldn’t attach all of them, the maximum files I can add are 10). Thanks in advance for anyone who critiques my drawings.

I think you pointed out the problems: contour and proportions. Don't focus too much on the 2 minutes limit for now. Take your time to feel the force of the pose, the main line and so on. You should check the Force series by Mike Mattesi. When you'll practice tomorrow, I would suggest you to start by correcting your drawings. Once again by taking the time to get a better understanding and feeling of the poses. I use to redo my drawings of the previous day. At first I check out the mistakes I've made then I try to correct them. It has been a good help so far. When I compare the first attempt to the correction, I realise that I have understand something new. Keep going !
