added comment inProko Challenge Landscape Thumbnails - FINAL SUBMISSIONS HERE
I have learned a lot from this experience. The first 3 submissions are gouache and the 2 with an orange border are in oil. When I put them together to photograph I realized that the gouache paintings are 1.5” x1.5”. Good thing I’m not a carpenter.
I have been observing the sky at different times of day this winter on the Jersey shore.

I like how your two orange paper ones turned out! How did you get them so nice and grainy?

My first 4 thumbnails in gouache. This was my first time using this medium. I did 2 images from the same reference photo because I was struggling.
good job, gouache can be really tricky, getting the right amount of water and pigment is always a challenge for everyone. Keep going...

I'm having a problem downloading the reference photos. Thanks.
Hi @Kelly Ratcliff you can find the reference photos here:

I did these gesture drawings from a magazine on the airplane. I didn’t time them but tried to limit my lines. I feel like I’m progressing but could use some help.
Hi there! Thanks for sharing your work. I hope my suggestions will be helpful in spite of me being a beginner myself.
First of all, your drawings are clearly readable and don't have any superfluous lines (lines that don't deliver any information), definitely keep it like that!
Regarding gesture, in order to get a better feeling for its flow, I think you could try to exaggerate more. If the Line of Action is a C (e. g. 2nd drawing, 1st page), make it bend harder! As an exercise, I have found it useful not forcing the LoA to strictly follow existing surface lines and contours. In your 1st drawing on page 2 you could lead your LoA from the left shoulder to the right glute and to the shin, in order to get a sense of the weight that is forming the S-curve (when you start focussing more on proportions, following surface lines becomes more useful again). This approach is similar to the Force drawing method by Mike Mattesi, which you might find interesting: https://youtu.be/IyuCq6VWVeA
In general, try to make the LoA follow through the whole body.
Also, I think you don't have to add the parallel rhythms for contour and form just yet, these imo go too much into form and contour. To focus purely on gesture, I liked trying the 5 lines and head exercise that has already been mentioned in other posts.
Apart from that, for me, using my whole arm and shoulder for drawing and making long continuous lines instead of scratchy ones and also using the air drawing method, made gesture more "feelable".
Hope this helps! But again, I am new to this myself, so you might wanna get more professional critiques, as well!
Take care and stay creative!
Felix
This shit is impossible....
Hang in there. I posted my bad gesture drawings and was given some ideas that have helped me. I didn’t put a time limit but limited my lines. It’s getting better.

Hello! These are my first 20 (1 minute) poses. I found it very hard to simplify as you can see. At the end I was enjoying this approach so I also did 2, 5 minute poses. Feedback welcome.

Hello,
I've been working on some gesture studies (1 - 5 min poses.)
I am trying to exaggerate the posesin order to get the story and emotion clear without losing their believability.
All Feedback and critique is appreciated

Here’s a few of the 2 minute gestures I’ve done this week. The numbered ones are the ones drawn in the 2 minute proko video, the rest are other models. Please, would love some feedback if I’m going in the right direction gesturally with these.
I'm just starting out in this class and found your drawings to be very helpful. I really like them.

Try using a plum line or stick to evaluate the relationship between the side of the figures head and her right foot. I think you will see that it is off a bit. 😊
