Hey mmcav923, I want to give you a few pointers on your apple drawing that I hope will help you in the future. First of all, when you render, you should squint at your reference, this simplifies the values for you and helps you see just the shadows and the lights. Then, the most important thing is to look at what the light is doing. In your reference it is shinning straight down on the apple. Some of it is bouncing back up into the shadow causing what is called reflected light. I did a quick sketch to show you what I mean, I hope it helps :)

This comment was helpful to help me understand why the "ring" of core shadow happens

This is awesome. I do you go on about learning Mechs? Who would you say is your go-to artist to learn from about Mechs? -- I'm thinking about dedicating a whole sketchbook to Mechs only, and I'd like to surround myself of quality references for it

My attempt at tracing, I still very little know about anatomy and the concept behind it. I just trace the form beneath using jack ham's figure drawing book and anatomical charts from google searches. I hope i can get some feedbacks. I have a feeling anatomy will be the most difficult subject I've yet to learn, and it will be an interesting journey indeed.

Hey, I'm learning too but something that I've noticed is that you are not always aligning the striations with the actual direction of the muscle fibres. The ones I've noticed at a glance are: - Pecs (there should be 3 subgroups all originating at he the at the shoulder at the armpit level and one attaches horizontally to the clavicle, one vertically to the sternum and another one horizontally to the ribcage) - Biceps, triceps, forearms (all these should run longitudinally ie. same direction as the arm, as opposed to perpendicular to the direction of the arm like you have depicted them.) In this latter case I think you are mixing up volume lines (ie to give a sense of the volume of a shape) vs the actual muscle striations. I think it's a very fair confusion and a hard one to discern unless you have a good understanding of each muscle's function. I hope this feedback has been constructive!
