Asked for help
Hiii here are my first gesture drawings from across a 1 week period in order of when I did them. This is my first time taking art lessons of any kind and I’ve developed way too many bad drawing habits over the years, so I apologise for the bad line quality and all the itchy scratchies! Tripod hold still feels a little weird and sometimes I automatically draw over a line until it is at the angle I want so I’m practicing just leaving the lines as they are. Any tips or critiques would b hugely appreciated!

Hi I am also new to taking lessons, but I can see a vast improvement in your gesture drawings from beginning to end. I see more confidence in your gestures with more pressure in your strokes and a more accurate way you are following the gesture line. Thank you for sharing your art!

These are actually a pretty good attempt. However, you're focusing on contour too much. Remember it's gesture. You're trying to break down the poses to the bare minimum, the movement, flow or action. I'd suggest doing 30 seconds per photograph if you're not already. This way, you know your time is limited and you'll focus more on finding lines that express the motion rather than the contours of the body. Good luck and don't give up.

Those are some great starts. It's all about using the bigger muscles in your arm to have smoother lines. Move that elbow! If you have a chance buy an 18x24 pad of newsprint and draw the gestures larger. This will help you get your whole arm moving. Also, if you can use a drawing board that is setup in front of you at an angle, drawing on a flat surface will automatically keep you from moving your arm at a full range of motion. Most importantly, keep practicing! Great Job!
