First Master StudyI finally tried to do a master study of a famous painting and it looks pretty crappy but it's a first I guess, I only used one layer here and tried not to erase and color pick as much as possible. It looks very inaccurate. I also tried to do some kind of painterly style but it doesn't look like it.
What do you guys think of this and what should I keep in mind when doing these kinds of studies?

Hey c_moon,
first off, congrats on your first illustration, that a big achievement.
I think the pose is good, but has some issues with proportion. I always do a structural drawing first to work out my proportions and perspective. That way I don't do a lot of work on my drawing if the proportions are wrong.
Your instincts are good by having her in front of the cave opening. It's called a framing device, and is used to help guide the viewer to the main subject. I think though if your going to use it, you should make the opening larger so that she is framed by it better.
I also think your use of a limited palette of colors is also good, especially for your first illustration. It gives the piece a cohesion. The only thing that I would do with the color is have the outside of the cave be a cool color for a nice contrast.
over all, you did a nice job. I hope my sketch is helpful :)
After a few days, I've finally finished my first illustration! I'm not sure what specific critique I should ask here because there's a lot of stuff to go from here so I guess I'm going with asking for general critique instead.
What issues does this painting have and what stuff should I improve on? Also the pose I drew is from imagination so I'm curious what you guys think of it.
I'm just a beginner right now so some honest constructive critique is appreciated here.
First time studying this subject, some critique is appreciated. I used the eyedropper tool here a lot and I was wondering if that's "cheating" or not, I'm still a beginner and trying to get into digital art.

I think for the drawing in the middle, the pose is a bit off-balance as the center of mass isn't above the straightened leg. Also, the head is a bit big.
Overall, I think you got the gesture down pretty well but it would be better if you really showed which parts are being stretched and which are compressed by using more decisive curves, for example, the left side of the third drawing could've just been drawn with one c curve. Another example is on the right side of the hips on the first drawing, you drew an awkward bump that goes against the gesture.
Also for gesture studies, don't focus on the details and shading and try to do them as quickly as possible.
Don't rush learning anatomy yet and make sure you can draw accurate proportions first.
I hope this helped!
First time doing this sort of thing, all the figures I've done up until this point were gestures and mannequins so I want to hear what you guys think. I still don't know much about anatomy (haven't read that one Bridgman book yet because idk how to start) other than the basic shapes and maybe a few muscles and bones.

Hello @c_moon,honestly most of these heads looks pretty good, you said you had struggle for no4,7,9 but I only see problem with the perspective on no 4 and 9.On 4 specifically I think you're underuestamiting how much skull is shaped like an oval from atop and as for no 9 I think you should made the hole of the nose a bit more squashed since we're looking from below (also here's some overpainting if that helps)
On the topic of wanting to draw stylized anime head,I recommend (if you haven't seen it) watching this video by Ethan Becker (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YVwCDv5_ahg) where he recommend to simplify the face and learning to draw expression on the face and learning how other anime-esque artist you like simplifying the face (he also has some good tip about drawing faces too)
BUt anyway, good job, really love how you're posting consistently!(This is how you get good quick)Keep going, you're doing great!
Hi, i highly recomend a book tittled "Constructive Anatomy" by George B. Bridgman, the explanations are a little bit tough to understand but the examples in this book really helped me to understand anatomy in a more dynamic way, for your drawings, I personally think it's better if you start your skeleton with 2 boxes and a line that represents the spine and simple lines to indicate the arms and legs, after it you can draw over these boxes and start making the shapes of the body.
I've recently started doing skull studies since I heard it'll help me get better with head/face drawing, this is my first study. I have difficulty drawing heads/skulls in extreme angles (Skull #4, #7, and #9).
What other stuff should I also do to improve my head drawing? My goal is to be able to draw stylized heads, something like in an anime art style.
Finally got to doing this, it wasn't easy. I had a hard time drawing these especially the 5 min. figures. I felt like my figures got a bit stiff and disproportionate. Also do I need to draw the Robo-Bean first before turning the figure into a mannequin? Because I feel like its making process much harder.
I'm struggling and I need some tips and critique. As always, it's greatly appreciated.
