Thanks Stan. Having good source images for figure drawing students like me immensely.

Here are some gestures I've done on my own last week. I've been doing gestures for 3 years on and off but this year I'm committing to practicing and learning some new techniques to use all this year and onward until I'm more comfortable. I tend to add notes to my gestures to help me remember what I'm struggling with and I also use pen to force myself to accept mistakes and not linger on a gesture for too long. Any critiques are appreciated.
Gestures should be a few longish lines to describe movement or flow of the body. Try to divorce yourself of the idea that gestures are outlines of a form. Gesture drawings on their can be beautiful into themself as a finish abstraction of the human body. Limit yourself to three or four lines. It can be fun and uplifting to test your skill by describing a complex form, movement, and emotion in a few simple lines. A great Gesture sketch is the starting point for a process that leads to all good realism. B
Can’t see your gesture and primary structure form (robo bean) lines. Suggest you follow the process of gesture first, primary forms to establish perspective and key landmarks. Than stop and measure and correct the forms for height length and width before starting the “ manequization” process. Measure first if you ae after a high degree of realism. B.

Hi Vue. Hard to comment since you posted the robo bean sketch but not the source image. I think you got the concept. Now you need to measure to make sure your primary forms have the correct length width and depth. Taking the time to measure and correct forms now will save gobs of time later.

I am working of the figure drawing robo bean assignment. I first drew a gesture line of the key shape. Then I stacked boxes representing the torso and pelvis at the correct perspective. Also, I am using different shape boxes to represent the male and female body shapes. I find using a wedge shape representing the female pelvis and the male torso for the primary body shapes helpful and pleasing to my eye. Is this the correct path for this assignment. Is it ok to use wedge shapes instead of rectangular boxes. Feedback would be helpful. Thx. B
