This assignment was VERY challenging for me. The snail was not so bad, but all the details in the boots have been very distracting for me. I struggle so much with drawing them in the first place, even while being loose with proportions, that it's hard to have the mental room to focus on line confidence. For me, this has been an exercise in patience and persistence more than anything else. I don't see much improvement in my drawing, but my mental suffering while trying to finish the exercise has decreased significantly lol. I've gotten so frustrated with these boots that I've needed to spend a lot of time away from them before my next attempt. I avoid finishing the exercise, consider giving up, and then eventually work up the courage to keep going. I'm proud of myself for finishing them not once but twice! I'm going to attempt them again, after watching critiques. I'll also use a bigger sheet of paper. It's hard for me to make confident strokes on these tiny shoelaces, so I need to make them bigger. I left a note in my sketchbook to remind myself to SLOW DOWN and be patient. I needed it. Maybe one day you guys could make a video about working through the emotional challenges of finishing a difficult drawing if you haven't done that already :)

I struggled with this warmup. I've been practicing it for a few days and seeing improvement. Once it got easier to get my ellipses in the right spot, I could start focusing on my line darkness. Learning how to use my whole arm to draw and not just my hand has been hard. It gets easier every time! Still practicing this warmup.

This is my first pear ever. Any feedback is much appreciated. Thanks
@buggirl
I think you did an amazing job at using planes to show the shape of the pear. It would look even better if there were a more noticeable difference between the highlights and the second lightest color on the pear. I think this could be achieved by eliminating the white space left between your lines when shading. Great job!

My pears before and after watching the demo video. I'm happy with my improvement, but I want to work on shading evenly and not making my outlines too dark. I'm glad I pushed myself to redo the pear even though I felt like maybe I learned enough just by watching the video :)

My third and final pear, featuring notes from the critiques and demo. I wanted to adjust the values a bit further, but I could not darken my darkest dark any more with the pencil and paper I had available. Also, I cannot stand to stare at pears any longer! I am pleased with the amount of progress I have made, though :) I'm excited to move on to the next lesson
