I like these warmups so much, I combined them with the mushroom warmup. Also, I have a cheap sketchbook dedicated to just warmups and do them every time before I draw.

That's a great idea! My kids make a lot of scrap paper when they draw and do crafts, so I repurpose their partially used cast-off sheets for warm ups. I also try to sneak in a few warm ups on the scrap paper I create during my full time (non-art) day job.

Is it the type of papper that is making my shading messy?
@boilerpharm
Try putting another clean piece of paper under your hand when you draw, so you aren't rubbing if through the graphite. That should help a lot. I use a scrap of tracing paper.

Hi! The first pear was done with just a 0.7 mm mechanical pen prior to watching the demo. The second pear was done after watching the demo and using HB, 2B, 4B, and 6B pencils (please disregard the leaf embossed from a previous page of my sketchbook). After watching the critique video, my feedback for myself is: 1. I should have kept my shadow area more unified by using a darker second shadow value. 2. The tone in the light area could have been more even. 3. I could have used the direction of my shading marks to better reflect plane changes 4. I should have left more room for the cast shadow 5. My proportions are off - the reference pear was more squat 6. Be more careful not to have outlines showing around value changes I am sure there are things I missed. Would love additional feedback if anyone has any. Thanks! :)
