My lack of simplification through using straights was apparent once I completed it.

Challenging to get differentiation between the two dark values - I think I crushed the tooth of the paper! Happier with the banana, which was done after the pear and watching the demo, with matt graphite pencils in wider range of softness. I suspect from my original pear photo that I didn't achieve enough gradation in the lighting of the subject either. :)

My attempt at the level 2 portrait after watching the demo. I did attempt it before seeing the demo, really struggled with getting the values right, then went back over my original drawing about 2 weeks after seeing the demo to fix it up a bit. Unfortunately I didn’t take a pic of my first attempt. Imagine the same drawing only worse lol. I don’t like the dark halftone on his right cheek. Looks painted on. Finding it difficult deciphering where one value ends and another begins. Shading still needs to be smoother, but I think I’m getting better. Any critique welcome.

So finally started. Haven't actually drawn since school. Used an HB mechanical to start then moved to wooden pencils (6B, 4B, 2H)
I've always drawn and shaded with mechanical 0.5 I like the fine detail. So using wooden pencils is a little uncomfortable. I also have a tendency to not go dark enough so using a 6B definitely helps.
I think next I'll try on larger paper this was A5. I currently don't have any paper later than A4.
Great to just draw something simple again to get the hand moving.
Thanks and looking forward to doing more.

Level 1 - Assessment complete. I'm a beginner, so I chose the fruit. I'm glad to be a Proko student, I'm in it for the long haul. I know my values are all over the place in this image, but I got in a rhythm and the shapes started to feel too good. I broke one of the rules, "draw what you see and not what you think..."
