Loved watching the stream and how Dorian simplified shapes and values. Gave it a go and ended up with this

I visited Nationalmuseum in Stockholm today and started working on a cast drawing from a sculpture by Johan Tobias Sergel. I enjoyed it a lot! I worked for three hours and almost finished the medium shape stage. I might continue the drawing next time I visit... :)

You'll find all the sculptures at the MUSEUMS IN YOUR CITIES ! TO DRAW FROM!

Good point! For those of you who live in Stockholm, I tried it at Nationalmuseum today. Most of the sculptures are lit from multiple angles, but in the room with sculpures on the top floor, there is an even light from above

When, (at what stage) and how do you use fixative, when working with charcoal? I found it not dark enough, I basically draw as dark as possible, spray the fixative, and put another layer.

The only place I have found for plaster casts is CaproniCollection.com. They are not inexpensive. They do have a nice catalog online.
@carlospolit
Hi Dorian, why did you transfer your original cast drawing to a new paper and start working from it? why not do it right away from the first one? thanks!

What is your favourite medium? What do you think about realism in oil painting? (seeing as how you are very good at representational/observational art)

Your 8-week shading course is amazing (I've been attending back when you started while in Barcelona). I highly recommend the Shading Course! It will take your drawing to the next level.

What is your opinion about working from a photograph of a cast or model? Is this: not considered “drawing from life”, frowned upon, or even cheating? Thanks in advance.

Looking forward to it. A technique one if I may. I am now able to render smooth even tones reasonably well with pencil .. lots of dots and sharp pencils / pressure but an even charcoal tone is still a bit elusive. Any tips there would be great. Thank you.
Dorian Iten
For me, a sharp point is key. To get a sharp point, you need a charcoal that's firm enough to hold the point.

Stan, Dorian, given the broad range of plastic anatomical models and figures, could you recommend an affordable source for the head "castings?"

Hi dorian, when shading a form of any local value, how do you determine its shadow and light value?
@toromanticart
hi, years ago I wanted to buy one, and I would have liked it even now but I don't think I'll buy it anymore. anyway in the past in the end I bought a cast of the david of about 15 cm, the face of him, mini cast is counterproductive? it can be useful, you advise me to reuse it, or not recommended., or reduced size leads to wrong habits. correct size, it would be the size of a real head, or maybe bigger, probably both, maybe for single parts, the bigger the better. thank you very much for the livestream and for a possible reply. one of my doubts and this, possibly on a distance where to place it, but the video would probably already clarify various doubts, anyway thanks
