Mason Verger from the movie Hannibal. I'm wondering if i should have tried to make it funny, dynamic... i was focusing too much on scary...

Nawazuddin Siddiqui Caricature. What are some shape design decisions you would have altered? Other critiques on rendering etc welcome.

I know this post might be a little off topic, because of the fact that I painted a caricature of George RR Martin with full colour (Zorn Palette), but I really need your opinion. Any critiques are welcomed. Thanks in advance.

There's definitely a recognizable likeness there. But when I look closely, the features and even the forms themselves are vaguely indicated and a bit sloppy. It seems the expressiveness of the bold brushstrokes overwhelmed any attempt at indicating three dimensional forms. And that's okay. It can be a style choice to work that way. But if it were me, I would focus more on explaining the forms and planes of the face through careful application of the paint. Be more aware of your edge quality. And most of all - the actual drawing. For example, make sure the eyes are "his" eyes. And not just general symbols for eyes.

Some more rough sketches, Obama and Jerry Nadler , i tried to stretch Jerry's face more, didn't work out, let me know if you think it needs more exaggeration, thanks!

Very good! These are exaggerated and shows a lot of likeness. Now would be a good time to trace over the Reilly abstraction so you can correct minor features that don't align before you do a final version. Keep drawing and best regards

Focusing on sketching as suggested, redid Obama, and added Churchill and Fauchi. Please critique

love these!

Very good work. All of these have strong likeness. I would like to advise you to work a little more on the exaggeration part. Try varying head shapes. I don't know if it's a coincidence but all of these heads are taller than wide. You can get a bolder result with Churchill if you exaggerate his wide head. So experiment with different alternatives. The thumbnail exercise might help you on this. Keep drawing and best regards

Good work on Michelle and I love the nose of Fauci.

Abstraction and rough sketch of Mrs. Obama, please critique, thanks

Hi @Israel Gelman as you are working on the abstraction I think you really are eager to learn how to caricture. In my opinion you should wait with the abstraction and spend more time in sketching. Did you do more than this sketch of Mrs. Obama? I would be interested in them, because the sketch you showed is very rough and needs more work to get a better likeness. I think you should work on capturing the forms of the features better. The mouth in your sketch should be broader. The shape of the nostrils needs work and you sketched the eyes so roughly that the shapes are not clear. Did you notice that Mrs. Obamas eyes in the reference picture are different in shape? Take a close look. This could be something you could push in your caricature.
