Chapter 1: Gesture Drawing
Marco Bucci
Gesture drawing often involves "re-programming" how you see and take in visual information.

I did another one using a different person's (Kristian Nee) technique. Also redid the previous one using that technique.

Hopefully this is decent, at least. One thing I don't entirely understand is the differentiation of silhouette vs the gesture. Is it that the gesture is simply less connected to everything and more abstract? Does it have to do with the rotating C lines like in the one in the middle and the one on the side closest to the icon I use?

Is this a good gesture of the image

I think it would be helpful to practice landmarking. There's a lot of energy here but some of the angles could use more direction. There's a lot of tension in the arm connected to the ground, for instance. Accuracy isn't the point of a gesture drawing but some amount helps the human brain more easily see a person. I like Marco's points about adding plumb lines to tether parts of the body to each other while remaining loose.

Entirely new to digital. Gestures are a past time from another life and I never really got the hang of them then. Time limits give me weird line anxiety but it’s getting easier with practice. Feedback welcome, not sure where to post. Thanks

The ones under the assignments section are really good.Just try exploring a bit more with searching lines.I have the same problem with 3-5 min gestures I don't know what to do with the extra time.By the way I really like the finished piece of the boy you made.Did you use a tablet with a screen or one without?

You're drawing more of contour lines not gesture lines. Look at some of Marcos drawings in the video above.

Some more gesture drawings, I'm starting to understand some of it but the standing pose was a lot more difficult to capture than I thought. Would these be a good enough start for a drawing?

Try to use more forceful lines like Marco does.Remember you don't have to be perfect you just have to get your emotions on the paper. All the points and angles are relative nothing is absolute.

Not sure if I should be posting this under the lesson itself, sorry!
