Hey there! This is my first post I decided to do some skull studies and I was wondering if you guys see anything I could improve overall in my work?

@Roon the skulls look great, the painted is half finished-spending more time on finishing would make it look even better. I would encourage you to use the lines in your drawings for shading with more care-use lines' direction to help communicate the shape.

Hello there! This is my first attempt at drawing a skull and paint it aswell. Drawing the skull was challenging because of all the crack and details it has. So I kind of left some of those details out. The painting itself.. Well.. It was my first time. I could have left it as it is, but that would be kind of boring. So I went ahead and challenge myself to paint it. Let me know what you guys think. Any critiques are welcome. Many thanks for taking your time looking at my artwork.

Hi! I think the skull came out great if this was your first attempt! I would comment on your approach, though. If you never tried a skull and never painting means you tried to get a handle of two things at a time, which makes it super difficult. It would be better to try and draw a skull and instead of painting over it, draw it again. Or just paint something much easyer and work with that before going for the skull. Draw/paint more and post:)

I feel like next time make the nasal cavity 50% smaller it’s a bit large compared to the rest of the face but, man that detail is amazing. Also teeth are through out the entire mouth the way it looks now they have the teeth placement of a horse

The teeth are not well and the skull is not balance. You draw a centre line on the skull and you will notice the imbalance in the skull. I liked the shading. That I wish I could learn.

Hi @krutikesh , The rendering is pretty solid but the proportions have issues (mostly the forehead is too small, which is something i did all the time, the left and right side of the skull are not symmetrical (right side is too wide). I took the diagram from https://www.proko.com/tool/anatomical-skull/overview which shows proportions of the Proko skull and lined it up on the side and on the bottom to show where the proportion issues are. Then I used the correct proportions to roughly "fix" your drawing using photo editing software. I use this overlay method as well to figure out what I did wrong in my drawings, so I don't make the same mistakes next time. Anyway I think you made an good drawing, with better proportions is would have been an awesome drawing.

Hey there! Awesome work! I think you should bring out the darkest darks more, I'm talking about the core shadows and the ambient occlusion. It will improve the drawings a ton ;) Also, it looks like the drawings slip downwards on the right side a little bit. You should fix that! I hope I could help! Keep up the good work! :)

I suggest you work on your perspective, these look a little wonky...

Hey Roon, good job on these! To me they read as sort of flat. I can tell that they're skulls, but the forms aren't reading as well as they could. Something that might help is defining the edges on the shadows. Right now I can get a rough idea on where they are, but the actual edges of them don't feel like they have any specific end points. Doing this would help create form, and in turn make them look less flat. Hope this helps!
