Been focusing on painting portraits for the last month. My goal is to try to go for a more painterly style, working from big to small and attempting to design my shapes. Any feedback to help me improve is always appreciated. Thank you.
Hey Bill,
You captured the expression pretty well, but the drawing is out of proportion. I suggest you start by building the structure of the head first to work out the proportions before you go to details. Also, pay attention to the angles of the features such as the eyes.
As far as the painting part, you need to compress the values more. The lights in the shadow side of the face are too light. Make sure you compare the values throughout the painting to create the right values.
1. Try flipping the canvas to check the proportion.
2. Use liquify to adjust the proportion too.
