Need helpful critiques on shaded figure
4yr
@persona937
Hi! I spent a few weeks on drawing and shading this women figure and I would like some feedback on; proportions, shading conditions, and lighting conditions. I omitted the chair and cast shadow because I didn't think about including it until the end which was already too late. Thanks for anyone that helps.
Hey Persona937,
Nice job on this drawing. What I noticed is that all your shadows have hard edges. You were correct in giving the cast shadows hard edges, but remember, form shadows have soft edges. What I did was just adjust some of those edges to show you what I mean. I hope you find the paint over helpful :)
Also, the halftones aren't established clearly enough. This is very much related to the edge between light and dark. Besides having a softer edge with the terminator, the halftones will have different shapes depending on how quickly the form is turning in a given spot. The softness of the edge between halftone and terminator will also vary quite a bit as it moves along a form.
I've noticed that when I do these shaded figure drawings, my critiques always mention that my shadows have hard edges. I don't notice it until someone points it out.
Nice job, now put the dark behind her back, give her chair to sit on and throw the cast shadow on the ground :)
