Is this good enough for a junior concept artist?

Rubén Frutos
Hey there folks. I attached some images from a personal project and I don't know if they are good enough for getting a job as a junior concept artist. I know this is a weird topic and maybe kind of a stupid question, but I'm always questioning and doubting myself and I wanted an honest opinion. I would appreciate if a pro artist could give me their insights on my work. However, any critique, tip or comment is always welcome no matter the skill or person. Thanks! PS: I'm going to keep working hard and improving no matter what, so please don't hold anything back!

i like the project presentation, it's clear and i can get an idea of the tone of the series. So that's really good. However, i think some of the decision designs, like the clothing color of some characters can be improved, it's not a big deal but it can push the design's clarity if you simply adjust your values. Same issue with your BGs, especially with the 7th image and the last one. The objective of this field is to communicate an idea to a production team, not presenting a final piece, so before putting detail in the paintings, try to maintain enough value contrast between the objects so that it can read better, just be more conscious about your shapes and edges. good luck with your applications!

This was very helpful, Carlos. Thank you very much!!

Definitely the best way to know is to apply and ask for feedback if you get a rejection!
Rubén Frutos
I'll do that. Thanks, Kalvin!

i'm not in the industry and i'm not interested in this field, but as a general advice i would suggest you to try and propose yourself for jobs. The worst outcome is that you get rejected and you can always ask for advice by people that everyday look at portofolios. Hope this helps :D

I guess that will be a better way to find out haha you're absouletely right! Thanks, Alberto!!

I'm not in the gaming industry so I can't give you an answer so take my opinion with a grain of salt. It looks like good work to me, I just wouldn't put the last image in a portfolio unless I worked a bit more on the background and how the figures fit into it. I really like the study of the setting in the eighth image, and also the study in the sixth. Your characters have personality. You could maybe try putting in some textures to suggest materials to the 3D artists.

Thanks for the insight, Serena! Yeah, at the time I was really proud of how the last image came out but you're totally right. I should probably put more work into the bg or change it completely. Thanks!!
