Figure Drawing Feedback

Hi! I've been going through the Figure Drawing series trying to improve my drawings of humans. So far, I just finished the video about using the "robo bean" to give structure to the torso. Attached are some figures I drew using what I learned so far from the series (gesture, structure, landmarks, etc). My main goal with them is to portray the structure of these models whiles still maintaining the gesture of their poses. I would appreciate any advice regarding this or really anything else about these drawings. I tried my best to not completely erase the "robo bean" for these figures so that it's clear how I constructed the torso. Thanks in advance for any help!
Hey Hakeem,
The issue I am seeing is that your shapes for the torso and pelvis are not relating to each other properly. Remember that the torso tilts back and the pelvis tilts down. If this relationship isn't there, it will stiffen up the pose. I hope this helps :)

Without seeing the reference images, I can give some general advice based on my experiences. Structure will add stiffness to drawings if it's not accompanied by emphasis on gesture. This means you will need to push the gesture more to counter the stiffness brought on by the structure. It's less about the accuracy of the structure and more about the emphasis on the gesture, which is the life of the drawing. Structure helps ground the image in reality.
It's a balance you have to strike! It takes a lot of practice to be able to work with both concepts harmoniously. You're on the right track 👍
You know, I didn't really think of it as a balance. I sort of thought of just being as "accurate" as possible with both structure and gesture. I appreciate this! Do you know how I can emphasize the gesture in a pose that is relatively stiff? I feel that one of my weak points is that if the model is not leaning their weight in an obvious way, I end up with a pretty stiff drawing.

Man, just looking at this a few hours later makes me see so much wrong with my figures. I feel like especially with the middle figure I was trying really hard to get the structure down and at some point I completely botched the gesture of the original model.
The one on the right looks great. Very difficult to capture the lower abdomen/hips, but yours looks great. Keep it up.
