Figure drawing critique needed
3yr
@ikencu2021
This is another one of my shots at figure drawing (3 hours). This was done in graphite, with a 0.5mm mechanical pencil. (pose from http://reference.sketchdaily.net/)
I totally agree with @Steve Lenze I use imaginary vertical and horizontal lines all the time to try and get the proportion correct. This is a great rendering it just needs some accuracy.
The great thing about working with digital images is that you can do an overlay of the photo on top of your drawing after your done to test your accuracy. You do need to be careful of how you take photos of your work because all smart phones will distort your drawing and kill the comparison. But it's a great way to check the accuracy of your work.
Another way is to turn both your drawing and the photo black and white to check your values.
I would suggest that you draw larger for the next one though. You don't have to go 10x larger, but maybe double. This will give you some room to play with the forms a bit and it will subdue the texture of the paper so your rendering can be smoother.
I hope that helps! Keep drawing, that is the most important.
Hey ikencu2021,
This is a nice drawing, especially considering how difficult this pose is. If you don't mind though, I want to nit pick it for you so that you can hopefully grow.
One of the things we want to do when blocking in our figures is to use horizontal and vertical lines to make sure things line up properly.
For example: if you draw a line from the knees up, and look at the distance the between the line and the body, you'll notice your legs are too long.
I did a little example of what I'm talking about over your drawing. Again, this is a nice drawing, I'm just showing you a way to create more accuracy in your drawings. I hope this is helpful :)
