Before and after watching the demo videos. I felt like I still struggled somewhat with the shadows and light approach even after watching the demo.

Sketches before (first three) and after (second three) watching the demo video. I found I drew more freely after switching to a slightly softer pencil (from HB to B).

First two drawings are prior to watching the demo, and the second two are after. I feel like the second two are somewhat messier, but I was able to draw faster using the method in the demo. (Also, apologies if the lines are rather light and hard to see.)

Nice work! Your studies show strong choices for line simplification all around. And even though it's 'messier', it seems that the second method does show more confidence as you approach each line. Keep it up! :)

My attempts to draw a simplified version of the pear. The first drawing is from before I watched the demo video, and the second drawing is from after watching. (Note: The second drawing uses a different reference image than the first.)

Great progress! The second example shows much more value clarity already, and makes the pear appear more 3-dimensional. I think you could still push the 2nd darkest value a bit more, just so there's more of a difference between it and the middle value. That way, the clarity between tones can really be emphasized.
