This one is for Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland. I spent way too long on the little unnecessary details here and wish I’d spent longer on the cat! This one is so out of my comfort zone in style and colour but hopefully it fits the brief. I feel like trees should be super easy but I really struggled with these. I need to practice maybe another 1000 to get there! Critiques super appreciated x

I love it! it really captures the twisty unpredictable nature of Alice in Wonderland, I was gonna say that it's a little hard to read, but honestly I'ma back-track on that and say that's it's just easy enough to read and enough difficult to add to that idea of nonsense and I almost feel like I'm falling into wonderland. The contrast red and pale blue is a really smart choice, I wonder if it looks a little odd on the words? I think the cat looks great, lol. I have to disagree with Charlene below me, I think your negative space is fine, personally. I think if you tried to fill it up the page might seem too crowded, as it is I think you still have a really strong composition and visual hierarchy, nothing is fighting for my attention it goes "Cat - typography - details behind the cat". yeah, really like it :)

Hey everyone, Here is my submission for this month's Proko challenge. I decided to go with Coraline by Neil Gaiman, you'll probably notice I took some "artistic liberties" with Coraline's hair, I liked how it looked in the overall composition, as if she was being dragged by the dark, so I decided to go with it. Hope you all like it :)
@susieliveshere
I knew it was coralline without even reading the text or making the picture bigger! Really strong piece!

Hi everyone! This is my first Proko Challange! I couldn't resist to squeeze in some time for it when I saw the topic! It was a real challange to work with such a limited colour palette! The book I went with is one of my all time favourites, Sabriel by Garth Nix. A very good fantasy story with interesting takes on magic and good storytelling!
@susieliveshere
I love it! The font is really strong, the textured background adds interest without adding too much clutter. the composition is also super strong! I'm learning a lot just by looking at this piece!

Hey people. Good evening. My book cover is "Open veins of America Latina". I'm not sure if it's my favorite book ever, but certainly my favorite from the latest I read. It's too said and bitter tho, so I could'nt let that feeling out of my cover. Congrats for everyone's works.
@susieliveshere
Very interesting concept

Thank you for hosting this challenge! I've been really enthralled by Gothic stories this past semester and Rebecca quickly became my favorite book. The author excels at creating an eerie atmosphere throughout, so it was super fun to try and translate it into a cover.

Love the painterly face - really evocative

The Left Hand of Darkness by Ursula K. Le Guin is one of my all-time faves, but a risky pick because it has so many good covers out there already! (and it turned out half of my thumbnails were just half-remembered covers lol) Tbh, I have never really designed a book cover before (only a couple for fun) and I'm afraid this came out too much like a comic book cover! But I had a lot of fun nevertheless. Typography is also very much a weakness of mine so please let me know what I can do better!

The color scheme and the illustration are nice and clean. About the typography, I personally think its colors are nice, but the title is too little in comparison with the author's name, I think it would better the other way around. As a handlettering/illustration artist, an advice I can give is, instead of using plain typography, play around with the disposition and size of the letterforms to give them the vibe you're looking for, whether they're are hand-drawn letters or fonts. This can give a lot of character and personality to your work. Hope you find this info useful. If you have questions about it, you can ask me, no worries.

Comic book covers still look cool though. For me, my guiding principal with trying to pick fonts for the title or author is to find something that kind of fits the vibe or genre of the novel. It's hard for me to tell for your cover because I haven't read this book but I think your fonts look okay and well spaced out.

The Golden Compass by Philip Pullman is I think one of the best written sci-fi fantasy stories out there. I immediately picked this book when I saw this challenge as it remains one of my all time favorites. Here is my final full cover as well as some closeups for details.

Really lovely illustrative style!

Hello! Here is my submission for the April 2022 Proko Challenge. It was really hard to choose a favourite book (I don't actually think it is possible!) but my cover is for the Book of Three by Lloyd Alexander. I read this series so many times as a child and have a lot of fondness for the characters. For this cover, I employed hand lettering. The Horned King (the story's antagonist) is the centre of the design, framed in by a silhouette of Hen Wen, the oracle pig. I would love to hear your feedback! It was a great challenge being limited to 2 to 3 colors - the restrictions really push you to be creative. :)

This is blowing me away! I love this cover, you understood the brief! I love that it feels kind of aged, the concept is very clever too, great use of texture to compensate for colour, but still keeping a simplicity! And lastly giving a really good feeling of what the book is about, kinda creepy fantasy, right?
