Asked for help
Hello,
There is my first attempt for the symplify from observation lesson with the pear 1.
Tried to only use straight lines and only have 5 values.
I'm not really sure to have well understood the assignment and maybe I had to use a value at the background of the pear ?

Hi @Fabrice Laffont, great start! You're not worrying about details; I can clearly tell that you're going for the gesture. My favorites are the two in the bottom right, with their elegant s-curves flowing through the body! Great!
I'll do my best to help you further:
PRACTICE TIPS
I attached an image with some practice tips. I think this is the most important advice I can give you at the moment. If you practice a lot and with those tips in mind I think you'll be able to improve fast and find the answers to many of your questions on your own.
LINEQUALITY
If you haven't already I really recommend watching this video and applying what it teaches https://www.proko.com/course-lesson/how-to-hold-and-control-your-pencil/assignments
Being able to draw long strokes confidently is a great tool for gesture drawing; the drawings come out faster and are more clean. I've also found it to help me empathize more with the model because I have the ability to fly quickly over the page, like I'm racing through the body with a car, feeling the force in each turn.
Another thing that can help with linequlity and cleanliness is to use fewer lines. A good rule of thumb is to try let the first line you put down be the one you use. At first this will give crappy drawings. Don't worry! Accuracy comes with practice but the good habit of cleanliness has to be there from the start.
30 SECOND POSES
- Don't forget to do 30 second poses as well. In fact, here is where I would spend most of my time in the beginning. 30s poses are great, because they force you to only focus on what's essential, plus you get to practice that 4 times instead of just once in 2 minutes. It's a great way to get comfortable with the human figure, the gesture & the proportions, and your pencil. Getting a good grip of the big picture also helps when adding details.
DRAW THE FLOW
I think you would appreciate reading the critique I gave another student, TobeO. There might be some useful stuff in there https://www.proko.com/profile/thosakwe/activity (Scroll down to his first post)
But again the practice tips are the most important, especially the part about following along with Stan, since his good habits will become part of your repertoar
I hope this was helpful :) Keep up the good work!
