Gave this gender bending reference thing a 3 hour shot, didn’t brave the self portrait like Andrew but see what you think… takeaways; 1/6 size is too small for my fat fingers - I’m moving to 1/3 Much easier with 360 reference shots

Hey looking great. I agree with @Yiming Wu comment on pushing the gesture, part of it might be that the weight bearing leg is more directly under the center of mass in the David sculpture and on yours it’s more to the side. The widening of the hips might also start a little bit higher and then the widest point is usually at the level of the groin. Great job and keep it up!

This is looking quite interesting... maybe the body overall could use a bit more twist to show more weight, now it looks pretty straight up and down.

Ok Andrew, here are a couple of female torsos I have done from poses from posespace.com, I limited myself to 2 hours each starting with a tinfoil bean armature… feedback and advice on how to make them better greatly appreciated :)

Ok so I accentuated the gesture and increased the secondary features, what do you think ?

Thanks Andrew! With an armature stand tied to a finished sculpture, how it is detatched? We never see the armature stands in finished exposed works.

I believe it is cut off with bolt cutters before the piece gets molded to be cast in bronze etc.

I chose some master sketches from the great Bill Watterson for my gesture studies; feedback appreciated

Somehow my measurements varied slightly…😂 but I got the 3 soldiers wound up… Now onto the gesture exercises!

nice! watch the hips so they're not too wide. those might be pushing it once the clay is added. Keep it up!

Hi, Andrew. For the kneeling man I used a drawing from the Gottfried Bammes book Anatomy for Artists, and for the other two I used photo references. The left foot of the standing figure should be lifted a bit more, but I couldn't get it to stand properly for the photo. I call the trio "People in despair" :D. It took me a little over one hour for each figure.

I’m totally new to sculpture, but these look great to me, the gestures look very accurate and believable, I like how you chose a theme and did three examples within that category - great job and thanks for posting your work!

Ok here is my second sculpture for the $5 challenge - J Mac soft clay over a tinfoil bean using only hands and a butter knife - hoping this gets easier with tools… feedback appreciated :)

Hey looking great. Looks like you’ve got the primary forms pretty well established. I think this is good for a first sculpture, as you continue to work on other assignments start with these primary forms but keep it thin so that there is room to build on the secondary forms of the muscles on top. Keep it up!

Hi Andrew, just joined the course have been enjoying the videos and trying to catch up with the assignments… this is my first sculpture ever as the “$5 challenge” j-Mac soft clay over a tinfoil bean using just my hands and a toothpick from the “Eva” photos. Excited about the course and look forward to your feedback
