I am a product designer. I need to learn how to draw better so I can better communicate the ideas I am trying to share a few paintings in my head.

Hi Stan, Hi fellow students !
With the help of Stan's review of my latest post and this pear demo, I've been refining my assignment.
I corrected my values, which were too light and confusing. I was also using some outline between my values which I didn't want to. I think the reason why was because I was using too much pressure in the contour at the beginning of the sketch. So, I erased some parts to do some nice, clear shaped, values.
Thanks you stan for the feedback a few days earlier and this amazing Demo !!
Really looking foward to learn some more in the upcoming videos.

Some pears in graphite from the example photos, and some oranges in graphite and procreate which I set up for a still life. Drawing from life is always better than drawing from photos, I find it really challenges my observation skills more and really makes me consider form.
I find shading in graphite really difficult, and I much prefer doing this kind of thing with paint. That said I really want to challenge myself with this course and use materials I don't enjoy so much.
Feedback is very welcome :) Overall I enjoyed this. I'll attempt a few portraits tomorrow, and may do some more still life.

Level 2 attempts. I’m having a bit of trouble removing detail. The first attempt looked more like a mosaic of many many value areas before I started shading. Any advice on figuring out what is unnecessary in a simplification assignment and how to work more with values and less with shapes?
Note: A bit of distortion in the images because iPad heavy and noodle arm wobbly.

Somehow rotating the paper eluded me for a long time. I think part of it was that in High School we only ever used big newsprint pads and it just never occurred to me since then.
"I fear not the man who has practiced 10,000 kicks once, but I fear the man who has practiced one kick 10,000 times."
-Bruce Lee
Whenever I'm doing warmups I'm reminded of that quote. In this case, replace kicks with strokes. Though "fear" may be a bit dramatic.
I also noticed using a permanent medium like pen helped me to slow down and think. If I've gone a while without trying something in pen I find myself regressing to overly-searching lines. It is a tendency I have to fight. Along with being heavy-handed.
Those are my thoughts on what I've gone through so far.
