Hello there, I have not forgotten this course at all! I have been trying to finish my Creature Concept Art in 3D mentorship that I can only do this study every few hour every day. I really enjoyed doing bas relief sculpture and thought it would be great if I did a cat portrait as well. Here is the first attempt and the recent one after working on it and improving again. I think I grasped the theory of bas relief, feels like straightforward at first but it's easy to make it look "flat". Looking forward to practice more of these!

I love that the premium lessons I watched so far can be applied to many type of sculpting style and works, instead of only following one way of doing it. I've always been interested in more modern commercial sculpture like you find in games in Asia, so I thought I'd give the opportunity to utilize the space to share my progress and my work :) Will share more later on! I can feel the improvement before and after taking the premium courses. The last image was when before I took the premium course, different character but the same IP.

Hey it's great to see that you're practicing and trying to apply the lessons from the premium course!

Hello Andrew, I think building the secondary form slowly really takes a lot of my time so I thought I'd take it slow and show progress in this comment section as I go!! Here's my progress so far. Really love the assignment so far, so glad I decided to take on this course!
Andrew Joseph Keith
Hey I'm glad you've taken on the course as well and it's great to see your assignments! If I had to give a critique I might check the proportions as the legs feel a little short, the shoulders a little broad, and the arms a little long. Perhaps overlaying an image of your sculpture with an image of the pose in the early stages would help you capture those measurements more easily. Keep up the great work and I look forward to seeing more!

Slowly building up the sculpture slowly, and I thought I'd share my progress so far with the others who took this class!! I will update some progress and adjustments if there is any

Looking good! the head might be getting a little large compared to the body so watch out for that but other than that keep going and I look forward to seeing more progress on this one!

Hello, I tried to apply to keep the figure more thin and I think it allows me to focus more on the "movement of gesture" and the rhythm if that makes sense. I think it's a bad habit of mine and I'm constantly working on it is that I always wanted to go in and make it look detailed first without thinking of gesture. I think I am ready to move onto the next lesson which is doing it from master studies. Also the reference is from photo model book reference I bought that allows me to see from many angles.
Andrew Joseph Keith
Hey yes it's looking better! yes the gesture is very important so looking for gesture in the whole figure as well as in the limbs can be very helpful to make sure that the sculpture doesn't become stiff and lifeless. It's great to see your progress I look forward to seeing more!

Hello, I just made another gesture study with oil-based clay that is cheaper but similar to chavant clay as it is super hard to find chavant clay in my country. You can only get that imported at very high price. Anyway, I tried 0.6 mm diameter wire, I think I kind of get a hang out it. Would do more of these again for my warmups!
Andrew Joseph Keith
Looking good for a gesture study! I might focus on trying to keep the figure thin and add smaller pieces of clay thoughtfully to build out the figure thinking about the muscles and direction of the forms. Keep up the great work and I hope to see more of your work and progress in the course! Every sculpture will help you get better!

Hello, this is my first try to do gesture studies with clay while following the steps provided. This is quite small one, 0.5 inches = 1 cranial unit. I was waiting for my smaller diameter wire to arrive but I thought I would try to get the feel of the clay first with what I have, since I ran out of smaller diameter wires. I am the type who will learn more as I practice, so I think this smaller gesture study help me where to improve or where to push - to get the overall feeling of the piece without bigger commitment. So it does feel like solving problems in achievable manner. Additionally, it's fun to think of the story while doing this, like I was imagine this pose was like blowing a kiss :) Would love to do more as I go on the next video.
Andrew Joseph Keith
Nicely done! that's exactly what these studies are for is learning as you create. The more you make the better you'll get. I hope you do more for sure!

Asked for help
Hello, so far I'm enjoying the assignments!! Decided to attach a hand armature to the wired armature I did before - and oh gosh it was super difficult. The left hand from the photo was my first attempt and the right one was my second attempt. Took me a while to get used to it, but so far been a valuable experience!! Can't wait to try the next assignment - gesture one!
Andrew Joseph Keith
Great job! yes with smaller armatures like this I find the hand armatures can be more trouble than they are worth so usually I'll only do hand armatures for large sculptures (like 1/2 life size or bigger) but great job! Keep it up!

Hello, I decided to practice and make more wired armature, following the basic one and the modified human wired armature. For the "B" armature, I think I got carried away switching back and forth between this video and the previous video that I completely had forgotten to do the other arm haha. But I can always make a new one! More practice :) I think I got a bit overwhelmed in the beginning that I have to do it multiple times to remember. But overall, love lesson in this one!
Andrew Joseph Keith
Looking good! And you can always add a section of wire by tightly wrapping it around the torso for a missing limb or for things like weapons, wings, etc. Love to see the practice!

Hi, first post for the 5$ Sculpture assignment! I used school-grade plasticine that is found at local store (around 1.5$ in my country), and a modified old ballpoint pen with a wire loop on top for the tool. Mostly I focused on the overall gesture and form from all angles- although I realized eventually that the legs are too short. But I'm proud of what I'm making! Can't want to follow the next lesson!
Andrew Joseph Keith
Great first sculpture! Keep going! I hope to see many more of your sculpture studies!
