Finished the pear before watching the demo. I think I still need practice to control my pencil to keep a value clean. Any other critiques are welcome.

Hi! I like the simplification and shapes of your groups, very nice. If you find smudging to be an issue, you can try a napkin under your hand to see if that helps.
For your values, the light values seem very close together, as well as the darks. It's good that you're thinking in light vs dark as this is key to shading an object, but for the scale, the values selected should still be evenly distributed across the 5 steps. Try placing #2 as the exact middle between 0 and 4, then placing 1 and 3 in between accordingly.
For the drawing, the bounce light (the area on the bottom left of the pear) should be darker, about #3 in value. While it's true that the bounce light is lighter than the core shadow, when you separate the object into light vs dark, it still falls under shadow group, as it's just a shadow that is less intense because of surrounding light areas.

I tried to learn how to use overhand grip, just made some clean tone and some random lines.
These seemingly simple exercises are so important for growth! Work that muscle memory!

I bought some pencils I can get in my region and tested them with lines and gradation. I also tried to draw a cube with shading (I have no idea on how to shade).
