Hello I'm wondering as to the type of pencil is being used as well as the type of pencil. More importantly is it best to hold the pencil between the thumb and index and middle fingers? and should you only allow the pencil to touch the paper and use your wrist and arm to make the strokes. I haven't drawn in a long time and I'm used to holding the pencil the same way I do when writing. Also it seems that not allowing your hand to contact the paper would reduce drag and allow more free flowing strokes. My hand contacts the paper and this produces jerky staccato like strokes. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I think learning both grips is good because they can serve different purposes. The pencil grip is good for details though you can accomplish this with the overhand grip with practice. For gesture practice I use overhand grip. I try to use whatever grip Stan is using in the videos.

So I've been trying these for a few weeks now, I'd like to go on to the bean but hopefully I can have some feedback before. These are just some but i've done a bunch already, tried 2 min, 30 sec, 5 lines + head, and 2 min using charcoal as sugested buy proko (you can see the darker lines) these have been particularly difficult, trying the overhand grip while drawing either on my lap or on a desk, plus trying to get the gesture right has been very challenging, and the charcoal pencil on its own is kinda hard to use, but I guess I'll get accustomed to it. Any comments, critique or feedback would be greatly appreciated!!
