I really enjoyed this exercise. I didn't have charcoal available and it isn't to scale. Nonetheless what fun!
Hi @Kelly Dembowski, this is a great start!
When we tackle a full on figure drawing, the steps that break down the process usually go as follows:
Quick lay in of the gesture
Keeping the proportions of the figure intact
Adding form on top of the basic mannequin of the figure
Adding light and shadow to the form
I think you may be struggling a bit with the earlier steps, namely proportion, which is perfectly normal because it is one of the most difficult parts of drawing. I think it would be a good idea to study more figure proportion, and then the basic forms of the the figure, and THAT will really help inform your future shading studies. If you have any specific questions about those concepts, feel free to ask about that as well :)
Hope this helps! And let me know if there is anything that I can clear up for you

Just played around with some Brague drawings from Charles Brague Drawing course.
Hi Kelly, a little tip: instead of immediately drawing the complete figure, which will make it difficult to make corrections, try drawing a quick sketch with the simple gesture first.
It will be immensely easier for you to exaggerate the displacement of a simple curve and check whether the balance of the figure is maintained.
When you are satisfied with the pose of this very schematic and simple figure, proceed by building the mannequin on it and then with the next steps (if you wish).
You will save yourself a lot of headaches and will be able to move the figure much more easily :)
nice effort, i think one thing you might really benefit from is slowing down just a tad and getting a little more accurate with your proportions/placements of things.
