Here are my Bean studies for this lesson. I tried my best on making the gestures flow smoothly and to exaggerate them as well. I usually have a hard time on twisted body poses but I would like to know if I'm doing them right. Please give some critique on my assignment. Would really appreciate any feedback. Thanks!

Hi there guys! I usually practice a lot on drawing gestures but I notice that I didn't post much and ask for feedbacks about my works. So here are some of the gesture drawings that I've made, the first one is 1 min poses and the second one is 2 mins. I found out that one of the most difficult part for me is estimating the length of the torso, specifically the distance between the shoulders to the hips. I often make it a bit longer than what it actually should look like. Please give any tips or advice on how can I improve my gestures. I would really appreciate any feedback. Thanks!

Hi Dylan! I use the quick check of the crotch being the half way point from head to floor if it's a standing pose. Marshall talks about how his slow-motion figure drawings helped him to learn proportions BUT he feels that by doing a large amount of 1 minute gesture drawing practice he moved from making proportional mistakes often to being able to have strong control over the proportions during the white knuckled 1 minute drawing sessions. Marshall “Forget about the proportions when you are doing gestures at least for the first several hundred." Your gestures look good and you could try to draw through the form a bit more to help the flow. Example would be the bump in the knee. Try drawing the big flowing S curve throughout the torso and down the leg to the floor skipping the knee contour bump. Also watch out for symmetry in the contours of the limbs. Try to bend the contour to follow the main gesture. Really nice work! I hope this helps.

Hey Dylan, If you look at some of the gesture example videos you can see Stan visually measuring proportions. Try to see where parts of the body line up and draw an imaginary line. There might be better ways but that's what I've been trying to do. It looks like proportions are covered later in the figure drawing course. I'm at the beginning of this course too.
