Asked for help
Hi again, after the last critique I've been trying to keep up with doing around 10-20 gesture drawings and I tried doing so keeping things a little more simple and trying to push the pose a bit more and be less stiff, here's my drawings I've made today, are these looking a bit better?

just realised a typo in the post, I meant 10-20 a day for the last week and these are the last lot I did, not just 10-20 in general lol

Hi I just started up yesterday and did some drawings with the examples, the image with the star were all 2 minute sketches, the rest were untimed, I'm really happy with how some of these came out but would like some feedback! Looking at some of the other assignments and their feedback I think maybe I'm trying to run before I walk by trying to get the shapes this early on, I might try to just focus more on doing more loose stuff to get the gesture better, I'll try doing some 30 second ones since that should force me to simplify a lot more

Hi, you've clearly grasped the concept, but you're too concerned with making a figure that looks finished, which can be seen in the way you draw the legs and arms, for example. The purpose of this exercise is not to draw the body and its forms but to represent movement. So when you draw a leg you just need a simple curve. Also think of the body as a whole that moves harmoniously, not as a series of autonomous forms. :)

I am still new, but I see that you understand the gesture well which is a big step for a starter! I think you need to practice more on creating confident and continuous lines.

@bytecraft Really good work so far and it looks like you know to focus on the gesture more. The focus is to capture the movement of the body and not so much the forms of the contour. You are on the right path with gesture and drawing through the form to increase flow. I see you are using the CSI concept well. Keep it going and good work!

Hi! I'm no expert yet but I think I can see one of your problems. I think you are following the contour too much, specially on the legs. It looks like you are actually copying the shape of the legs instead of making paralell lines to show the gesture. Watch Stan's videos and notice how he draws them. But besides that I think they're good! Just keep trying I'm sure it will get better.

I'm very much at the start of my art education, but to my eye you straighten the poses a tiny bit, robbing them of their dynamism. And although I don’t think we’re prohibited from using straight lines, I think loose, flowing curves help us to push the gesture more. My lines are a bit shaky and still not dynamic enough, but I hope they help illustrate my critique. All that aside, big kudos to you for putting in the work! You’ll improve really fast if you keep at it, I’m sure.
