I feel like I know exactly where I went wrong every step of the way. Especially after overlaying the images in Photoshop. I think next time I do this it's going to be much better.

First Attempt. Still not great with getting the different pencil types to draw smoothly without white breaks...

It will take some practice. This jumps a bit ahead in this course but a value scale is a great way to practice and also will help you warm up for an exercise like this where you are simplifying value shapes. Here is the lesson video: https://www.proko.com/course-lesson/project-value-scales/assignments. Practice with the 5 value scale, and then you can use it to help you make decisions while you're simplifying.
